When the photographer and I went to the Cale's home, we agreed on the concept we wanted for the fall Shoals Magazine cover - something that screamed fall. We arrived late afternoon and stayed several hours taking time-elapse photos in hopes of achieving something with atmosphere. As the sun disappeared and gave way to a dusky blue sky, we asked the homeowners to turn on interior lights; just as we had hoped, the stately home became illuminated and warm. When we viewed the photos, this one in particular made us stop and take notice because of its fall-like spookiness. As with most of my cover photo selections, I knew this was "the one" the minute I saw it.

I like this layout becuase of the movement the horse on the right hand page has. I also love the determined look on the rider's face. I decided to use a large, almost two-page spread of this photo because I wanted readers with limited knowledge of the game of polo to be drawn into the story. I think this visual introduction captures readers' curiosity.
