- Limp's Durst Sounds Off on Eminem Single
-
- Eminem's video for "The Real Slim Shady" surfaced recently, bringing with it some pointed barbs at pop music's elite, and a bit of controversy as well.
- In the video (the first from his upcoming "The Marshall Mathers LP"), the rapper lampoons 'NSYNC and Britney Spears, among others, and he saves one of his sharpest jabs for Christina Aguilera. As we previously reported, Em suggests in his song that Aguilera has performed a particular sex act on Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst and MTV's Carson Daly.
- "For one thing, it's not true, so it doesn't bother me," Durst told MTV News this week. "[Eminem is] sort of answering the critics. He's going to the extreme with everything he can to now slap them in the face.... It's so over-the-top."
- The video for the song is equally over the top, as a blow-up doll representing the young singer sits between a Daly look-alike and Durst himself at an awards show.
- Aguilera has slammed the song, stating, "It's disgusting and offensive and above all it's not true." Durst agrees that the allegation is untrue, though doesn't see the lyric hurting Aguilera's career.
- "For one thing, Christina's amazing," Durst explained. "I really like that girl. I think she's an amazing singer. She's gonna have longevity. She's going to be one of those amazing icon women. I'm really attracted to her, I like her, and I've talked to her a couple of times, and that's that. I haven't had any type of relationship with her, or any type of intercourse with her. She's never sucked my d***, she's never sucked Carson's."
- Daly has told MTV News that he doesn't mind being mentioned in the track and added, "I think the song will be a big hit"
- Explaining Em's overheated verse, Durst said, "Maybe she put him on blast one time for one reason or another, and then he put her on blast, and I'm a friend of his, and when he throws me in the mix, I'm not offended. It's so over-the-top, I know that people aren't going to think this is true. But then again, there are so many people who don't know and hear it and go, 'Is that true? Is that true?' And if [MTV News] can clear it up, that would be great."
- While "The Real Slim Shady" has stirred up turmoil once again, Durst notes that it's apparently just the tip of the controversy iceberg that awaits on "The Marshall Mathers LP."
- "The more you feed the fire, the more it's going to keep burning, so if you don't want him to keep ripping everyone up, and talking sh** and saying things you don't want to hear, as moralistic as you want to be, then quit talking sh**, ignore it," Durst told MTV News. "Going after him... well, you see what going after him did, because this record.... Dude, that song is nothing. It's so over-the-top it's unbelievable."

- Limp Bizkit Dishes on M:I2 Video, New Album
-
- With a new album on the way, a free tour, and a gig as one of Napster's few public defenders, you would think that Limp Bizkit was running low on free time.
- However, the rock outfit found the time recently to shoot a video for "Take A Look Around," the theme song to the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 2." Limp frontman Fred Durst had hoped to land "M:I2" star Tom Cruise for the video, but few things about the video shoot went as planned.
- "I hated it, plus it's only for Europe," Durst told MTV News of the shoot, noting that "Take A Look Around" will not be released in the U.S. as a single. "You'll probably find a way to get it."
- Speaking about his planned pairing with Cruise, Durst said, "Tom Cruise couldn't be in it. I talked to him personally. So Wes [Borland, guitarist] brought up the idea then to get a Tom Cruise lookalike, which I think, that would be the way to do it."
- The soundtrack drops May 9 and sees Rob Zombie, The Foo Fighters with Brian May, Buckcherry, and others join Limp and Metallica, who are coincidentally suing Napster, the sponsors of Limp's upcoming free tour, for copyright infringement. As we reported on Monday, Limp will commence its slate of free shows (with help from Napster) on July 4 in Chicago
- The trek, which will see the band open clubs to fans for free on a first-come, first-served basis, is geared toward drumming up early support for Limp's third album, "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water." The band continues to hammer away at the album at Los Angeles' Westlake Studios and has pounded out tracks with working titles like "Nuthugger," "Boiler," "Asleeping," "Full Nelson," "Karma," and "Rollin'."
- Limp is reserving details of its free concert itinerary for its Web site, but has revealed that the tour will play multiple nights in Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, New York, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles after kicking off in Chicago.

- Limp Bizkit To Team With Napster For Tour?
-
- While increasing numbers of popular music's elite, including Metallica and Dr. Dre, have voiced their thoughts against Napster, it seems that Limp Bizkit may not have a problem with the online music distribution system.
- A "Los Angeles Times" report cites sources that say Limp Bizkit was close to completing an estimated $2 million deal with Napster Inc. to sponsor the band's next tour. If the "Times" report is true, it would appear to go against what seems to be the current industry and artist opinion regarding Napster's online music distribution software.
- Napster software allows users to search for and download MP3s from the computers of other Napster users, with neither the recording artist nor the record company receiving payment.
- At press time, representatives for Napster and Limp Bizkit were unavailable for comment.
- Last week, Metallica sued Napster for copyright infringement, accusing the company of encouraging its Web site visitors to unlawfully copy and transmit unauthorized reproductions of the band's music on the Internet
- Dr. Dre is also expected to follow in the footsteps of Metallica by filing suit against Napster this week. As we previously reported, the rapper had fired off a letter to Napster giving the company until Friday, April 21 to remove his songs from its pool of potential downloads
- On Friday, Dre's attorney (who is also representing Metallica in its suit against Napster) told MTV News that the rapper received a "disingenuous offer" back from Napster.
- As the process of drafting the complaint has already begun, the rapper is expected to file suit in Los Angeles' U.S. Federal Court citing the same three charges that Metallica levied at the company, including copyright infringement.
- Napster was also the target of a lawsuit in December 1999 for copyright infringement by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the trade group that represents the nation's five largest record conglomerates.
- Meanwhile, Limp Bizkit will surface on Monday from Los Angeles, where the band is working on its third album, to announce plans for a string of free concerts
- Cypress Hill will join Limp Bizkit for the outing, which kicks off on July 4 and runs through August 6. Limp Bizkit has scheduled a press conference for Monday to discuss details of the tour and will turn up on MTV's "Total Request Live" that afternoon to announce those details.

- Update: Limp Bizkit Talks Free Concerts
-
- They may have ditched the idea as an album title, but the pimp rock maestros of Limp Bizkit will still celebrate their "Limpdependence" with a month's worth of free concerts kicking off on July 4 in Chicago.
- Limp frontman Fred Durst announced the tour Monday on MTV's "Total Request Live" via satellite from Los Angeles and noted that the band will hook up with Cypress Hill and one other act for the tour.
- "We're going to give back to our fans what they've given us," Durst said from L.A.'s Westlake Studios, where the band is currently working on the new album.
- The trek is aimed at getting fans geared up for the August release of Limp's "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water." Specific dates and venues have yet to be announced, but the band will play multiple nights at 3,000 to 5,000-seat locations in Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, New York, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles before wrapping up the tour on August 6.
- Admission to each show will be free, a point the band drove home on Monday. "There's no strings attached... it's really free," Durst told MTV News.
- The trek will be sponsored by online music distribution aid Napster, placing Limp in the minority of artists who have publicly come out in support of the company. Napster has come under fire from many bands, including Metallica, who recently filed a lawsuit against the tech company charging Napster with copyright infringement and racketeering
- "The Internet is something that's here and it's here to stay. If our fans are down with it, then we're down with it," Durst told MTV News of the Napster deal. "The only people who are scared are people in the record industry who are used to things going the old way and they're scared of change. Who cares? We're going to give it to you for free, and they're going to pay for it."
- Napster will help to offset any hit the band might take by giving tickets away, as the "Los Angeles Times" reports that the band will get close to $2 million for the tour

- Limp Bizkit To Unveil Free Concert Tour
-
- On Monday, Limp Bizkit will surface from Los Angeles, where the band is working on its third album, to announce plans for a string of free concerts. Cypress Hill will join Limp Bizkit for the outing, which kicks off on July 4 and runs through August 6. The band is promising that a third act will join Limp and Cypress Hill on the bill. Limp Bizkit has scheduled a press conference for Monday to discuss details of the tour and will turn up on MTV's "Total Request Live" that afternoon to announce those details. Limp is expected to reveal how fans can go about getting free tickets for the tour and will also likely announce dates and venues. The band is expected to make one other major announcement as well. "It's been a great year for Limp Bizkit, and we wanted to give something real back to the fans," Limp frontman Fred Durst said in a press release announcing the upcoming tour.
- Durst and company are currently holed up in a Hollywood recording studio working on the follow-up to the six million-selling "Significant Other." The album still carries the title "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water" and is now expected to arrive in August. The band has recorded most of the music for the effort, and Durst recently spent a few weeks in Florida penning the album's lyrics.

- Durst Readies Lyrics As Limp Eyes Cypress Tour
-
- Fred Durst recently rejoined his Limp Bizkit counterparts in a Los Angeles studio after heading home to Florida to crank out lyrics for the band's upcoming album. Durst spent roughly two weeks in Florida writing lyrics for Limp's third album, tentatively titled "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water." Much of the music for the album has already been recorded, but the anticipated album now looks like it will arrive later in the summer than the July 4 release originally planned. When the album turns up, it will feature beats courtesy of Ruff Ryders producer Swizz Beatz on at least one track.
- Until the album is wrapped up, Limp's tour plans remain uncertain, though Cypress Hill says that they have been approached about touring with the band later this summer. "It's going to be some outrageous stuff going on there," Cypress Hill's B-Real told MTV News Wednesday night at the Online Hip-Hop Awards. "Fred called me, and we had been wanting to do a tour for a while, but it never really happened. So eventually time passed, and we were able to hook it up."
- Also on Durst's plate is a cameo appearance in Eminem's new video for "The Real Slim Shady." The clip makes its debut on a one-hour special "Boys From Detroit" episode of MTV's "Making The Video," which also features a clip from Kid Rock. The show will air on April 24 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

- Fred Durst Gets Fincher's Advice On Film Project
-
- As Limp Bizkit continues to work on the follow-up to 1999's "Significant Other" in a Los Angeles studio, frontman Fred Durst has apparently firmed up plans to begin shooting his first feature film, "Runts," in the fall. "Variety" reports that Durst has had several meetings with "Seven" and "Fight Club" director David Fincher to help break down the script, which was penned by William J. Cloakley and Christian Van Gregg and deals with a suffering and picked-upon high school student who eventually strikes back against his enemies. Durst has committed to the project, while Fincher will likely serve as an executive producer in order to mentor the Limp Bizkit singer through the process.
- Last year, Durst's name was connected with another movie, "Nature's Cure," for Warner Bros., but a suitable script has yet to be completed and approved by the studio. New Line will have the first option to produce the flick, although other studios are being courted, and Durst has allegedly pledged to involve either Limp Bizkit or his friends in Korn on the film's soundtrack as a selling point. It is unclear when Durst would find time to direct "Runts" in the fall, as he had originally planned on starting the project after completing a tour to support Limp Bizkit's forthcoming album, which has been pushed back from its original July 4 release date.

- Limp Bizkit Meets Swizz Beatz For Upcoming LP
-
The members of Limp Bizkit are all hard at work on their new album, and the group has chosen, once again, to call on one of hip-hop's finest to put together some of the beats. A representative of LB's Flip/Interscope Records label confirms that the members of the band are now in a Los Angeles recording studio working on at least one track with Ruff Ryders producer Swizz Beatz, who has crafted hits for the likes of DMX, Eve, and Jay-Z. Limp Bizkit previously scored a huge hit with the song "N2Gether Now," a track that featured the Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man and was constructed by sought-after hip-hop producer DJ Premier of Gang Starr. The Interscope rep also told the MTV Radio Network that the band members have already completed eight of the basic tracks for the new LP.
- While studio work continues in Los Angeles, Limp frontman Fred Durst has returned to his old stomping grounds in Florida to work on lyrics for the album, which is tentatively titled "Limpdependence Day". The album is expected to hit stores on July 4.

- More on M:I2 song
-
- Limp Bizkit's theme to the Mission: Impossible 2 Soundtrack, which hits stores on May 9th, will be impacting radio in mid April. The track was recently leaked to the net and has been available in mp3 format from several sources since last week. The track can best be described as the classic Mission: Impossible theme, meets "Break Stuff", meets "Rearranged", meets Nas and Puff Daddy's "Hate Me Now". The Limp Bizkit track, along with Metallica's "I Disappear" (also from M:I2) hit radio early last week and were quickly met with Cease And Desist orders from Hollywood Records to have stations stop playing the track. Expect videos for both tracks before the release of the soundtrack.
