GIG NUMBER TWENTY-FIVE
Who
Ash kept the theme going with a loud yet ultimately fairly indie set. They seemed to play everything, the crowd were great and it was another good night. Oh Yeah was memorable, I think Girl From Mars was the opener, Numbskull (or another very loud song) the closer, and Kung Fu was top too. There's really very little else to say as Ash aren't really the kind of group liable to surprise you! They just did what they did and did it well, putting them at just about the top of the straightforward indie-rock tree. Better than Feeder and Idlewild most definitely!

I kept up the conventional-but-good theme with Ash following just five days after the Sheds! Support came from Snow Patrol who were pretty good, taking their songs and hammering all the life they could out of them. The crowd really liked it. They were ultimately very indie but clearly enjoyed what they did a lot and it seemed to me they are best heard in the live arena. Seems they've caught on now too, which is nice enough, although I'd had been more inclined to become a fan on the basis of the title of their debut L.P. Songs For Polar Bears!
