GIG NUMBER FIFTEEN
Who
I'm glad to say I saw Elastica before they split up although I wish I'd known the songs better prior to the gig. In fact I don't think I even knew Connection! Many tunes were played in a short time, with Mew jumping around, Annie looking old, Justine being the image of cool (still) and Mark E Smith popping onstage at the end, even though I seemed to be the only person who recognised him! There was quite a crush and, although The Menace was a pretty chaotic album, I have since come to regard it as a classic slice of chaos. It's awful but in an entertaining way! And this was most definitely a good gig. It was a gamble but it came off quite well: everything went right for once and I even got the setlist!

Comments
This was probably worth it alone for being told to piss off by the guitarist after pestering him on the poster stall: I didn't know it was him! I mean, who would have guessed that the band themselves would be the people selling the merchandise? I also had a very uplifting conversation about the future, all of which has proved wrong now, but it was nice at the time. We were once again at the front as Echoboy opened the set with a few nice little numbers. I think two guys had a go at singing, but there are very few details I remember now. Much better than when I'd see them with Lupine Howl the next year though!
