This was something truly special: for just £3.50 I got to see three good bands in a tiny venue, which is pretty hard to argue with! OK, I admit I only went there because the name Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi got my attention, but a band with a cool name are very likely to be interesting, which is more than most acts on the circuit are! Liquid Sky opened things but I can barely remember them: they were OK though. Papa Mantra were particularly energetic, with a permanent trumpet section providing a very tuneful and catchy soundscape. Nice.

But this was Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi's night! Their brilliance was short-lived, but here they gave an incredible performance! They came on with loudspeakers, wearing their trademark plastic fluorescent caps. Nice entrance! They also really rocked, albeit playing so fast you could only stare open-mouthed in amazement! Also the drummer and singer swapped places several times, which is definitely a quite strange occurrence. A moshpit did get going towards the end but this was more of a watch-and-be-blown-away occasion. Hear The Air proved to be a fantastic sing-along and we even got a bit of Eye Of The Tiger at the end, which was a top suggestion from a member of the audience to fill up the set!

Unfortunately though, Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi seemed to be very quick to abandon the full-on fun rock that briefly made them special and, when I saw them doing the Leeds festival a few months later, they'd already pretty much lost it. Very sad I know, but everyone then of course lost interest well before the album came out and the band split up soon after. Their star shone brightly for a while though, and this remains a classic gig for me.
