Super Furry Animals lyrics - Shoot Doris Day Shoot Doris Day

Shoot Doris Day
Out of the way
In the pouring rain

Sentimentality pause
As Jimmy Stewart ignores
Her question

People never stay the same
It's a fight between the wild and tame
I've some feelings that I can't get through
Even to you my friend
Wasting away in vain
Oh mercy!

Victor Panache
Lost his moustache
In a P.R. war

Public relationship tears
No-one would touch him for years
You betcha

People never stay the same
It's a fight between the wild and tame
I've some feelings that I can't get through
Even to you my friend
Rushing around in vain
Don't tempt me!

People never stay the same
It's a fight between the wild and tame
I've some feelings that I can't get through
But those feelings never bothered you

People never stay the same
It's a fight between the strong and lame
I've some feelings that I can't get through
I'll just binge on crack and tiramisu

Animals don't stay the same
It's a fight between the wild and tame
I've some feelings that I can't get through
Without turning to a military coup

Quote (Gruff on ringsaroundtheworld.co.uk):
"The (DVD) film really illustrates the song. The song's quite self-explanatory in ways. It's a great big chorus. The Shoot Doris Day reference is to shoot her with film. I wanted it to start with a very cinematic reference for a very cinematic intro – it just had to be over-the-top lyrically. It's very simple, about how people always change. In the second verse there's a reference to Victor Panache, which is our vision of Peter Mandelson. That was about his old scandal, but while we were recording he had another one, which was quite handy, not that I feel any sympathy for him at all. It's probably the most anthemic moment on the album, but there's a lot of regret in there."

DVD director:
Peter Gray - Shoot Doris Day was filmed on location in India. The film was cut by 'The Killing Fields' editor Jim Clark and photographed by Bollywood D.P. Faroukh Mistry. Peter Gray is by trade a professional Hairdresser and the SFA's choice when in need of a trim. Ideas for the film were developed during a series of Trans Atlantic flying trips on route to celebrities in need of Peter's highly regarded skills. Hence his notes for the film ended up on sick bags and airline face wipes. The film was shot on 35 mm film at a 1:1.85 aspect ratio using multiple frame speeds and is beautiful to behold. However the film carries a sharper edge subtly entwined in its contrasting themes of the human condition. Peter was born in 1966 in Zimbabwe, before moving to South Africa during his early teens. He survived the educational & social system through immersion in music, poetry & literature. He then learned to cut hair and moved to the UK in ’88 to pursue an 11-year career with Vidal Sassoon. He dabbled in film and in '98 directed SFA's Smokin' video.
