Super Furry Animals lyrics - The Undefeated The Undefeated

(Noise! Pollution! Solution! Solution!)

I, I lose again
You are the victor I confess
You are David and Goliath
I'm but the dirt
Beneath your feet

Yes so shallow the undefeated
(Noise! Pollution! Solution!)
Yes so shallow the undefeated

Step, step into my shoes
I'll try and make you understand
I lead my life without a plan
I need no guidance
Just your patience

For so shallow the undefeated
(Noise! Pollution! Solution!)
For so shallow the undefeated

Every animal has its day
We will chase the phantoms away

For so shallow the undefeated
(Noise! Pollution! Solution!)
Yes so shallow the undefeated
Yes so shallow the undefeated
(Noise! Pollution! Solution!)
Yes so shallow the undefeated
For so shallow the undefeated
Yes so shallow the undefeated
Yes so shallow the undefeated

Quote (1) (Gruff):
"It's about underdogs, and overdogs. It's a real simple lyric. It's a pop song with biblical references, and no specific issue or event in mind, although I probably wrote it when the Welsh football team were going through their worse period of results in their history. It just shows how sometimes your fantasies can come true, and now the song, apart from the title, doesn't fit at all. It's about, even at your lowest, seeing a ray of light."
Quote (2) (Bunf):
"It was exactly how it looked on the tin. It was noisy, full of testosterone, with pumped up guys in the woods trying to kill furry animals! We were just going for the sounds of the guns, because I think we weren't happy with the quality of gunfire. So these two guys from Yorkshire turned up with two Uzis and two Kalashnikovs. But we had to phone the police to tell them there was going to be shooting and not to get alarmed by the fact that they're the two most favoured terrorist weapons! But the strange thing is, a few callers came to the farm, which makes you think, who would actually turn up where they can hear gunfire? And then a parcel guy came who I greeted with a Kalashnikov over my shoulder. He didn't come back."

An NME article entitled "SFA on war footing" says...

Zeitgeist or what? The Super Furry Animals have found inspiration in Mexican revolutionaries the Zapatistas while recording sound effects for their new album 'Phantom Power'.

The band hired AK-47s and Uzis then spent a day running amok in Monmouth, South Wales in order to create war sounds for the album.

Frontman Gruff Rhys told NME that the band were so concerned about the panic they might cause, they called the local police to tell them of their plans for album track The Undefeated.

He said: "We hired the guns and just ran around with them. We had to contact the police to let them know we weren't out there massacring people."
