March 13, 2002 -- Another recording session under the belt. it's seems the belt is close to the last notch. the sinus sessions are winding down, slowly but surely. drums for memory of a melody we're completed and a few random percussion sounds on aerial were added. new songs are being conceived.(i before e except after c). they are creeping up slowly. well i'm out like a "sunovaglitch."
March 10, 2002 -- New songs anyone....? Greg tames his beast with help from the human metronome...
...Recording continues as we are winding down to the final sessions. This project has been both costly and time consuming (not to mention mind-numbing at times) but in the end I think we're going to have a nice, full sound out of the EP. Save a few minor tweaks, vocals and strings/extras are all that remain before the mixing begins. The last few sessions have been alot of fun and we have really enjoyed the act of recording itself. Even though the earlier sessions were a bit dull, we have had some great laughs with our engineer (buddy..."is what i would say if I were gay") Josh Plemon as he has the ability to keep the mood light. After all, this is Southern Illinois and nothing matters, right? Yada yada...here are some pics from the recent sessions.
March 4, 2002 -- A happy birthday to murphy (feb24) and adkins (march1)! We are headed into another recording session tuesday. if everything goes as planned, vocals should be close to completed. one step closer to completion i suppose. New lyrics were posted for "Fools Gold." So check them out. If you happen to stop by murray stop in the dollar tree and mess up the shelves.
February 19, 2002 -- Shaping up to ship out....Work was done and a few dollars were made at the show on Saturday. Moving along, school and work schedules have hendered our practice schedule in the past few months so a general band decision was made to use the rest of this month and March finishing the "sinus" EP and practicing new material in the hopes to 'catch up with ourselves.' Brand new stuff has been sitting around for months with no where to go and new ideas are coming in all of the time. This stuff WILL see the light of day Lord willing, but not until it is determined satisfactory to perform live (years?). Until that day comes Kilroys' noise will not be heard, for better or worse. Oh ya, some recent studio pics will be up soon so stay tuned.
February 14, 2002 -- Happy birthday to....us! We're 2 years old today. Ahh, the terrible twos have arrived and we're looking forward to seeing the world quite differently with our new potty training skills intact. Anyway, recording and recent shows have yielded lots of pictures to be viewed on the page so hang tight there gumshoes. Also, besides a national warning of terrorist attacks, we are still working full blast. No turban is going to slow us down. The recording saturday was slow and mind numbing as usual. All the drums tracks were completed, save one song. The sinus ep is now tenatively scheduled for the end of March...don't sigh, it HAS to be done then. peace out.
February 4, 2002 -- A solid show on at Wes and Bethany Burgess' birthday bash! Thanks to everyone who tolerated our organized chaos. By the way, hang tight and we'll soon be bringing everyone a more up-to-date live show. Our current equipment is a bit limiting when it comes to doing what we actually want to do, but hopes are that this will be changing fairly soon. That's all for now...oh wait! VOTE for which song from the upcoming "SINUS" EP you would like to see in a music video for! The quizlet is on the main page.
January 28, 2002 -- A new look for the webpage...Special Spanks to Josh Smith for lending some new HTML code. In band news, we met with the director for the upcoming music video (more details on that later). Also, "Heaven" was 'rebooted' and worked on extensively as well as several other brand new songs and ideas. Oh ya and hey...we're playing at Wes Burgess' birthday party this weekend (Feb 2, 2002) in Benton, Il. But now ladies and gentlemen, we give you...Josh Smith and ol' Al.
January 19, 2002 -- Beachwood rocks! Yes, we've always enjoyed "having Wood" but last night at Sesser's Backwards Prom we were blown away with their new level of skillzzz. These boys are singing GREAT and are as tight as ever, displaying brand new songs and some really cool oldie covers for the prom setup. Everyone was having a blast. As for us, the sound was very good overall and made for a solid and steady set. More more recording is scheduled for the next month as well as rehearsing some BRAND NEW SONGS. We've had some interesting stuff on the backburner for a while and should be displaying some of these "newbies" at the upcoming shows. These new tunes are rumored to be "quite different." Stay tuned.
January 15, 2002 -- Yesterday, January 14, 2002, marks a milestone for the kilroys so-called "career". Their first public banning! Frankfort Community High School in West Frankfort, Il banned the kilroys web site from their public computers! Thanks to all who help promote the controversy on the guestbook. Keep it up!
January 13, 2002 -- Day 5 of recording yielded more guitar tracks over a 6 hour period. Some nice effects were discovered and almost all of the guitar tracks are complete. Only a few leads and fills and acoustic guitar remain. Next session is slated to wrap up the guitars and drums entirely. In other news...The show in Sesser is now on Friday the 18th and NOT the 19th and Odeum will be playing rather than the previously scheduled "16-til." Finally, if you checked out the "shows" page you will have noticed a rather surprising entry, a music video shoot! Very little details are available at this date but we can say that this is a REAL deal, no home videos. We'll keep ya posted.
January 7, 2002 -- 8 hours of recording... phhewww...3 more dates to go. The "sinus" ep is slated to be released around St. Valentines day. Awww, how sweet. Here are some pics of recent days...once again, thanks to all the peeps that have come to see the New Jerseys, Side Walk Slam and us. We greatly appreciate all of you! P.S. Take a glance at the "shows" page. Things are getting extremely busy and there are some really awesome surprises in store (we are very excited). Thanks again.
January 4, 2002 -- If there was one thing that could some up the NYRYS show it would simply be:
...or perhaps that is Adkins' lame attempt to take advantage of his sister's digital camera at 2 a.m.? In any case, it was an intersting show from start to finish, but overall we hope everyone in the crowd enjoyed themselves. We were thrilled to be able to share our music (for better or worse) with people we never thought would want to hear it, and thank them for giving us a listen (all you FCHS-ites). Special thanks to Luke Maddox for his trumpet and chime skillz on "Ukranian Bell Carol." So, now what? It's back to the studio to continue chopping away at our "SINUS" EP. The next several week are packed w/ recording sessions, practices, and oh yeah...school. Keep-a-visiting this lame "news" section for more useless info! Thanks.
January 1, 2002 -- Another long practice session at Stewart's girlfriend's (Lacy) place. Here's some pics:
December 30, 2001 -- Slow but steady...3 long days of studio time are now under our belt and more are scheduled for the following weeks. After several minor setbacks and last minute changes, the drum and bass tracks have been completed. Guitars, vocals, backing-vox, piano, strings, and a thousand little things remain so it will be several weeks but things are sounding really well so far.
"The New Years Rocks Your Socks" show is in 3 days! We're trying to get out of studio mode and back into gearing up for the show. Practices have been on a daily basis and flyers and e-mails have been posted everywhere we can think of. We're hoping the advertisement will pay off. Remember lights, new songs, ect...means one fun show.
December 17, 2001 -- Recording day #1: Dec 15th, we stayed up until 4 a.m. working out final glitches in our parts only to wake up 4 hours later and drive to Josh Plemon's much improved and impressive studio. The songs to be on the "SINUS" EP are: Victoria, Daisy, Aerial, Memory of a Melody, Fade Away, and Freeze Framed. After about an hour of setup and sound checks, Stew was able to complete all 5 drum tracks in just a few hours. Greg was on a limited time schedule as he had to work in the afternoon in West Frankfort so after finding an excellent sound for his bass, he was able to complete bass tracks for two songs. Murphy finished off the first day of recording with his basic rhythm guitar tracks for 3 songs as Stew and Adkins fought sleep (and sometimes lost the battle) to lend their ears in picky production.
The recording sessions will continue thoughout December and January. Hopefully there will be plenty of pics and maybe some mp3 samples of whatever craziness goes on in the studio this time around. Rest assured, this isn't just another "rock" recording. We'll be working our brains out to bring lots of surprises. In other news, it's time to start the mass-advertising for the "New Years Rocks Your Socks" show on January 2, 2002! NEW SONGS, LIGHTS AND COLORS, HOLIDAY GAYNESS! Rockin' Christmas and New Years back to Bethlehem...come see this show!
December 8, 2001 -- The show last night was awesome. We all agreed that it was a blast and definetely one of the best shows we've ever had. Olivia Hall played an awesome acoustic set. Olivia has one of the most beautiful voices and definetely showed off her song writing last night. We hope to play more shows with her soon. As for us, our set included: Victoria, Moon Shot, *ricky nelson cover*, Aerial, Starting Over, Memory of a Melody, Daisy, Denise (resurrected?!), and Fade Away. The crowd was great and all of our friends came out to support us once again. Thank you guys! T-SHIRTS ARE AVAILABLE. A picture will be up shortly. There is stuuufff on both the front and back, so its a good deal! Buy one and display your Kilroys affection in school, work, or on the street corner (or mark it up and say how much you hate us! We don't mind).
Moving along...One more fine tuning rehearsal is scheduled and then it is off to the studio on Saturday to start recording our "SINUS" EP. The EP is slated to include the following songs (order is not set in stone): Victoria, Aerial, Daisy, Memory of a Melody, Fade Away, and Freeze Framed. After the recording has been finished or close to it, it's time for the highly anticipated "New Years Rocks Your Socks" show. Come see this show!! Lots of NEW SONGS, lights, decorations, and sounds to keep you in the holiday spirit!
December 4, 2001 -- Get yer motor running...Let the madness begin as we enter the busiest month in our near 2 year existance. Last weekend we enjoyed watching tributes to ex-Beatle and Traveling Wilburys member George Harrison as we worked on a new song "Neverland." This song and others will be entering the line-up shortly. Friday is the show w/ OLIVIA at the Mt. Vernon Coffeehouse. The show starts at 8 p.m. Bring your friends cause its gonna be a blast. Then it's a another week of school (finals bleh) and rehearsals (somewhere in there) for the first day of recording on the SINUS ep. It is slated to be finished by the beginning of January, and hopefully available at the "New Years Rocks Your Socks" show w/ The New Jerseys at the Herrin Civic Center on January 2nd! Decorations, lights and sounds galore, new songs, and a few surprises to 'tis the season! Come see these shows!
November 19, 2001-- lyrics for new song "neverland" are posted for anyone who cares. sorry no "filth" in this one. rumor has it that this song is slated to feature a harmonica, no verification yet. shirts are being developed faster than the taliban are retreating. while everyone else will be enjoying their thanksgiving and christmas break we will be working our little tooshes off to supply the people with new music, merch, and shows. stay tunned, december is packed.-- murphy
November 14, 2001 -- Battleplans...Lots of stuff to report. The big news is the first phase of the masterplan (drum roll please) is set in stone: RECORDING THE "SINUS" Promo Ep. during the third week of December. These recordings are going to be all out and done right with lots of surprises. Next up on the docket, we're having a big ol' party new years bash at the Herrin Civic Center w/ The New Jerseys on JANUARY 2, 2002. We're goin all out w/ decorations and the works. Its being announced early so that we can advertise it to death and get a good crowd. Come see this show! Also, we're making T-shirts (finally!) and they will be available December 1st and at all the following shows, including the christmas/new years bash! In addition to T-shirts there is also a "surprise merchandise item" that we will be working on through the remainder of this month (the name is Smith...Josh Smith). Check the shows page and stayed tuned here for more details and pictures.
November 10, 2001 -- "the ups & downs" is right...After an interesting weekend in Chicago and the northern suburbs we are safely back home. Here are some random crappy pics of a late Tuesday night rehearsal/dinner and the drive back from Chicago (6 a.m. is way to early).
November 1, 2001 -- Hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween! Candy is gooood...Also, we hope the New Jerseys did well and had fun playing a special New York City tribute concert over 98.9 FM. Best wishes to them as always. As for us, we are all very excited about returning to northern Illinois to play the show on November 3rd at the Annex. We will do our best to have some freakin pictures up for everyone to see on this ol' website. We know it gets old just reading text. Monday morning will hopefully be host to bright colors and sounds on this news page! So, check back in!
P.S. There are alot of "TBA's" for the upcoming shows on the page. These shows are in the final stages of booking and as soon as the info is finalized it will be updated.
October 29, 2001 -- For those of you who tried to download the acoustic demo for "Bon Voyage." and were unsuccessful, it was because the server would not allow file downloads from a remote location. Sorry about that, but I have put the file on a new server and it should work now. Please try again. --Previous post (10-26-01)-- Here is an acoustic demo for "Bon Voyage." It was recorded on a laptop computer w/ a semi-crappy mic during a rare window of quiet time in my dorm room, nevertheless there were various interuptions such as the RA stopping by to see what all the noise was about. This meant stopping and starting all over again several times, but then again...what else was I going to do, study? Please, keep in mind this is a 'demo' and only the basic vocal and guitar chords. Hopefully, the song will be transformed into a much more complex piece when all of the parts are added. Anyway, we're paranoid we know...but here it is:
We had excellent rehearsals this weekend and were very productive in finishing "Heaven," finally! It turned out even better than we had expected with some last minute ideas added to the ending. Keep an eye out for those bass lines as well!
October 24, 2001 -- Rehearsals and Spare time: The show near Chicago is approaching fast and we will be spending the remainder of this week and next rehearsing our brand new material as well the rest. Last weekend Murphy, Joe DeMattei (a friend from school), Stewart and Adkins hopped in the Explorer and headed for Dayton, OH to watch Incubus play an awesome set. We were all very impressed, yada yada they were great. But, while we were on the way home, the Explorer decided to break its main surpentine belt in half, rendering the vehicle undrivable. We were stuck at a gas station for many hours in a small town near the Indiana/Illinois border. Graciously, Murphy's dad came to the rescue and drove the 3 hours there and back to pull us and the Explorer home. However, during those 6 hours, we were able to practice some of the newest material with Murphy's acoustic. "Heaven" is almost finished and should be ready to go for next week. Ideas and notes for the new "Worlds Apart" were finally compared and it to should make an appearance very soon. Also, "Bon Voyage" was tinkered with but still needs some work before it is electrified. By the way, I (Adkins) am working on putting an acoustic demo of "Bon Voyage" on the page. Stay tuned for that. That's it for now.
October 15, 2001 -- So much fun! We had a blast playing the show w/ My New Hero and Shufflepuck (their bassist is amazing! check these guys out) Saturday night. Much thanks to those guys for their gracious invite. It had been over a month since we had played a live show and twice that long since we had played a fully electric set. -The set included: Victoria, Moon Shot, Fade Away, Aerial, Daisy, Breaking Through, Memory of a Melody, and Starting Over.- "Plugging everything back in" was a nice change from the acoustic performances and practices we had been having for the past 2 months. However, if you do enjoy the acoustic performances, don't worry because there will be more in the future. Some other news...The lyrics to another brand new song, "Bon Voyage," have been posted. Also, there are several out-of-town shows coming up and at least two brand new songs as well as a extensively revised "Worlds Apart" will be debuted during these shows and several local shows in the very near future. Finally, the details surrounding the upcoming "SINUS" promo/EP are being seriously discussed and the recording dates should be set very soon. Stay tuned.
October 11, 2001 -- A impromptu invite to a show at the Youth Club in DuQuoin, IL has been extended to us! The show is THIS SATURDAY, October 13th at 7:00 p.m. We will be playing with "Shufflepuck" as well as "My New Hero" formally known as the "Ray Rider Project." It looks to be a good solid show w/ good equipment and lots of fun in the making. Hope you can make it !! ++ The Masterplan's first phase is very close to getting underway. Here's a little hint: "SINUS" promo/EP ++
