Guns N' Roses Add More Tour Dates, Including Roskilde Festival; Security Is Increased As A Result Of Death At Last Year's Event

Axl Rose's new line-up of Guns N' Roses have announced more European tour dates. Among the dates is a headlining slot at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark on June 28th, as well as dates in Spain, Sweden, Norway and a slew of U.K. concerts. The tour is theoretically to be in support of the long awaited Chinese Democracy, album which is rumored to be out in July, though no exact date has been set. The line-up is still presumably the same as the Rock In Rio and Las Vegas New Years Eve gigs in January: Tommy Stinson on bass, Robin Finck and Buckethead on guitars, and Brian Mantia on drums, and Dizzy Reed on keyboards.

Roskilde has issued a statement regarding the increased security this year as a result of the nine deaths during last year's concert. The statement reads: "The accident at last year's Roskilde Festival cannot and should not be forgotten. It has brought grief and pain for many people. It should be remembered so that it may form the basis of the efforts to make safer future festivals. Today festival promoters all over the world have knowledge that they did not have before last summer. Also Roskilde Festival takes very seriously the responsibility to make constructive use of the knowledge gained, and the increased focus on safety and caring of authorities, the audience, parents, the media, bands, and the rest of the festival business will make Roskilde Festival 2001 the most thoroughly designed festival. All parties will work to make sure that Roskilde Festival 2001 is carried out in the best possible way - which is what any audience will want to know before visiting any event where large numbers gather to share exciting experiences. Throughout the spring period the Roskilde Festival web site (www.roskilde-festival.dk) will present the extensive precautionary measures that will form the basis of the 2001 event."

"Roskilde has meant and still means a lot to thousands of Norwegian, Swedish, German, Danish and other young music enthusiasts. Since last summer they have sent Roskilde Festival more than 40,000 letters and e-mails offering their suggestions for change, their encouragement to the promoters and their opinion that it is vitally important that the festival continues. In respect for what happened last year, to support its audience, and to show that Roskilde Festival takes seriously the responsibility to put to use the new knowledge that has been gained the way that so many expect it and demand it. Of course, also to enable festival life to go on and to let the music play. Not at any cost. Not as if nothing had happened. On the contrary --for much has happened which makes it very important for many people that they can gather in Roskilde and recover from last year, find a togetherness - as first-time visitors or as experienced Roskilde visitors."

"Roskilde Festival has also received letters suggesting that the festival should not be continued. A very few have argued against continuing but also their opinion has been considered by the festival management. Due to its status as a charity organization Roskilde Festival is free from commercial interests and has been able to place great importance on the fact that the festival can deliver many and very extensive changes and thereby live up to the expectations of thousands - and to the needs of a great many too. With respect and dignity Roskilde Festival will move forward."
