6/26/01 AXL TOPS POLL ?????

simplenet.com

Who's wackier than Jacko?

Axl Rose has topped a poll of the most insane pop stars ever.

He was crowned wackier than Jacko in Kingsize magazine - Michael came in at No.4.

Eminem made No.9 for his onstage chainsaw antics. Lisa Left Eye Lopez from TLC is at 13 for setting fire to her boyfriend's house.

Surprisingly Marilyn Manson just scraped in at No.100

6/14/2001 AXL INTERVIEWED AT LAKERS GAME

TranscriptThanks to Paulaahh @ Dust n Bones Mailing List/ Photographs Thanks to Biojz @ AMB Members Board

Interview was done in Philadelphia, outside the Lakers locker room, after they had beaten the Sixers (Lakers up 3 games to 1 now in a best of 7 series). From what I understand, it was only on KNBC channel 4 in L.A. Fred Roggin is the local sports guy (he's a hammy comic sort - Axl smiling a lot throughout this ;) ). Axl mentions Allen Iverson - he's on the Sixers, great player, but he's got some tattoos and done some controversial things in the past (namely hardcore rap lyrics, and pot - oh, and he's got some tattoos ;) ), and of course the media won't let it die so he feels misunderstood about now. Anyway, here's a rough transcript of the brief interview (my comments in [ ]):

Fred Roggin: Do you know who this is? The lead singer of Guns N' Roses, Axl Rose. Wow. What did you think?

[Axl sorta laughing at Fred's dramatic introduction ;]

Axl: I thought it was amazing, it's a lot of fun. This was my first bask etball game ever, in person.

FR: This is your first game ever in person?

Axl: Yeah - to go see it live, yes.

FR: Coming in, were you rooting for the Lakers or the Sixers?

Axl: The Lakers are my favorite team, but I'm a huge Allen Iverson fan, so I'm rooting for the underdog, 'cos the Lakers are like, a given. So it's like - I win either way with this one.

FR: Now Axl, you sat out there, you experienced the fans....

Axl: But I want the season to go longer - they should extend the series - make it like a 10 game series.

[I think he really wants the Sixers to win ;]

FR: Now I gotta tell you something very seriously - I know it's your first basketball game ever, and I know it's all very exciting, but when all is said and done the season will have been long enough - it's a very long season. Now let me ask you, what did you think of these fans? People say it's a tough crowd, it's a rough crowd - what did you think?

Axl: I thought it was alright, I thought it was pretty mellow... I thought it was nice.

FR: Well we think you're very nice for coming over.

Axl: I'm rooting for both teams - when it's exciting, it's exciting, you know. I mean you can't take anything away from Shaq or Kobe, you just can't.

FR: Axl, thank you for stopping by, I really appreciate your time, glad you enjoyed your first game.

Axl: Thank you very much.

And that was it. He seemed really sweet, and down to earth - more so than I remember.

Fashion report (with apologies to those who don't care about such things ;) ): He was wearing a long white t-shirt (Nike), didn't really get to see much of the pants, but from what I did see my guess is they were trainers. Hoop earring in the left ear, two big diamond studs in the right, with a couple tiny hoops up top, big sport watch, could see some sort of necklace under the shirt. As for his figure, I didn't see anything close to an obvious paunch, a double chin, or anything like that. ;) He was clean shaven, hair still the dark reddish brown color, parted down the middle. He's got amazing skin. Great cheekbones. I thought he looked really young, with the exception of his eyebrows - still his natural color, so they look way too light with the darker hair color he has now (personally, I would like to see him go back to something closer to his natural red color 'cos I think it goes much better with his pale skin, but I suppose that's none of my business ;) ).

Can't think of anything else to say (other than hopefully I'll be laughing about this months from now, when there's tons of new interviews ;) ).

6/8/2001 REPLACEMENTS GET REISSUED

Former manager also promises comprehensive box set

The early albums of indie rock legends the Replacements have been remastered and will be re-released by Restless Records on July 24th. However, the new CD pressings of the Minneapolis band's first four Twin/Tone albums -- 1981's Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, 1982's Stink EP, 1983's Hootenanny, and 1984's landmark Let It Be -- won't contain any bonus tracks or additional artwork.

The albums were remastered by Greg Calbi, who's done mastering work for R.E.M., Paul McCartney, Sonic Youth and many others, and none of the band's surviving original members -- Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars -- were present during the process. (Original guitarist Bob Stinson, who was fired from the band in 1986 and replaced by Slim Dunlap, died of a drug overdose in 1995.)

"They always say you can't polish a turd," jokes original Replacements manager and Twin/Tone Records founder Peter Jesperson of the band's notoriously sloppy sound, "but these do sound better. The first time these albums were transferred to CD, it was done hastily."

Contrary to the popular Replacements legend that the band had once absconded with all of their Twin/Tone master tapes and dumped them in the Mississippi River, Jesperson says, "They threw some stuff in the river, but most everything they threw out, we had back-ups of. It wasn't like they threw out the two-inch reels from Let It Be."

Although the Restless reissues contain no previously unreleased material, Jesperson -- who now runs New West Records in Los Angeles -- hopes to deliver a thorough package of the Replacements' Twin/Tone-era material some day. "There will eventually be a comprehensive box set," he says, adding that he has already compiled more than seventy hours of music. "It's not gonna be a two-CD set with one of greatest hits and the other of rarities [like All for Nothing, Nothing for All the 1997 anthology of the band's final years spent at Sire Records (1985-1990)]. It's gonna be more thorough and well put together."

Among the buried treasures in Jesperson's chest include the Replacements' scarcely heard 1980 demo tape, which was slipped to Jesperson by Westerberg that same year. Other box set candidates include unreleased tracks like 1981's "Junior's Got a Gun," "Off Your Pants," "Like You" and "Skip It"; Hootenanny outtakes "Don't Get Married" and "Lookin' for You"; a countrified version of the Stink punk anthem "God Damn Job"; Let It Be-era tunes like "Who's Gonna Take Us Alive," "Street Girl," "Look Like an Adult" (later reworked as "Seen Your Video") and "Temptation Eyes" (which is currently making the rounds on Napster).

So, why hasn't this project come together sooner? "The guys in the Replacements don't sit around and listen to themselves," Jesperson says, " and I just kind of felt like maybe it was too soon for them to look back, reflect."

GN'R Reschedule Euro Dates; Slash Hits The Road

Boy, it seems like it'll take a miracle to get Axl Rose and his new version of Guns N' Roses on the road. After two high profile gigs in January to debut his new line-up, the Gunners announced a full-scale European tour that found them headlining several festival dates. However, earlier this month the band recently cancelled the jaunt due to guitarist Buckethead allegedly falling ill (though rumors had it that Axl was still recording vocals for the bands neverending sessions for the new album, Chinese Democracy). Well, now Axl has seemingly put the band back on track, as various European ticketing sites are listing European tour dates in Decemeber. Although the exact details have not been confirmed by GNR's management, the following dates have been listed online: Arnhem, The Netherlands, Dec. 2nd; Oslo, Norway Dec. 5th Stockholm, Sweden Dec. 7th; London, England, Dec. 13th and 14th; Glasgow, Scotland, Dec. 16th; Manchester, England, Dec. 18th; and Birmingham, England, Dec. 19th. More are expected to be added .

Buckethead illness keeps new GN'R from rehearsals

Guns N' Roses have cancelled their upcoming European tour, because of Buckethead having fallen ill. The guitarist is reportedly suffering from internal hemorrhaging, and has been unable to rehearse with the band. Though European contacts for the tour have publicly claimed that the tour has been cancelled, the band's management had no comment and plans to address the issue in the next few days.

The reconfigured GN'R -- which in addition to original member Axl Rose now features keyboardist Dizzy Reed, Buckethead, guitarists Robin Finck and Paul Tobias, drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia and bassist Tommy Stinson -- made their triumphant return earlier this year, when they performed a New Years show in Las Vegas and a January performance at Rock in Rio (their first shows in seven years). The group was scheduled to kick off the European tour on June 1st in Nuremberg, Germany. The fourteen-date tour would have run through June 28th.

As for Chinese Democracy, the band's first album in eight years (and counting), talk about the album has died down since last December when GN'R management told a Los Angeles radio station that it might be available in June, though Buckethead's Somewhere Over the Slaughterhouse is scheduled for release on June 5th from Stray Records.

GUNS N'ROSES have postponed their entire European tour because guitarist BUCKETHEAD has suffered "internal haemorrhaging", NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

An official spokesperson for the tour contacted NME.COM this afternoon to reveal that the European shows, which include a series of UK dates in June, have been pulled.

The reason cited is illness to lead guitarist Buckethead, who has been forced to undergo medical tests in the US to find the cause of his internal haemorrhaging. As a result of the illness, he has been unable to undertake rehearsals with the band.

A statement has been issued by the band's agent, which reads: "It is with great regret that I must notify you that the upcoming Guns N'Roses June tour of the UK and Europe is cancelled.

"Lead guitarist Buckethead has undergone extensive medical tests to determine the cause of internal haemorrhaging, a condition that has caused him to recently be absent from band rehearsals. Management are waiting to be informed of his prognosis.

"Discussions are currently taking place to determine when the tour will be re-scheduled and I will update you further on this aspect in due course."

The affected shows are at:

* Nurnberg Rock Im Park (June 1)

GN'R Cancel European Tour; Join Sanctuary Music Group

Guns N' Roses booking agent John Jackson released a statement announcing that Axl Rose and his new version of GN'R have cancelled it's European tour scheduled for June due to an illness contracted by guitarist Buckethead. The statement reads: "Lead guitarist Buckethead has undergone extensive medical tests to determine the cause of internal haemorrhaging, a condition that has caused him to recently be absent from band rehearsals. Management are waiting to be informed of his prognosis and as soon as I have further news, I will bring it to you. Discussions are currently taking place to determine when the tour will be rescheduled and I will update you further on this aspect in due course."

In the meantime, Sanctuary Music has announced that GN'R and its long time manager, Doug Goldstein, have joined the metal-based music group. Goldstein, who has been with the band since its first album and over its 75,000,000 record sales, will become Co-President of Sanctuary Music Management Inc. based at the company's new Los Angeles offices, which are due to open in mid May. No word on whether the band will release albums through Santuray Music or its affiliate label Metal-Is. The band is still signed to Geffen Records as far as we know... Music Group
