"Ok...this is my transcription of Zakk Wilde, Mike Piazza & friends talking about Axl".Chindem
Listener Mark: Hey, Zakk!...
Zakk Wylde: Yeah, bro...
Mark: I've heard a rumor about...you were thinking about joining Guns N' Roses, or?...
Zakk: No, I was playing with the guys, but Axl...actually, I just seen Axl not too long ago when we were in the studio...
Mark: ...yes...
Zakk: ...and then the...it's hysterical...we were just...I mean, Axl's getting organ (?) hammered...we're hangin' out in the bar...I mean, actually not in a bar in a studio--in Rumbo studios out in California...actually where Mike actually sang on the last Black Label record. So, we're hangin' out...we were in, uh, Studio A where they recorded Appetite For Destruction and they were in Studio...no, no. Actually, they were in Studio A. We were in Studio B where, where they recorded Appetite and we're hangin' out and, uh, I was playin' them Stronger Than Death and stuff like that, you know and I was goin', "oh, you gotta!..." You know, 'cause Mike's singin' on the record and stuff like that. We're playin' stuff...and Mike wasn't there and stuff like that, but...it was just we were playin'...
Mike Piazza: They had, like, this, like, amazing setup, too. Like, anybody knows about a studio like you were saying. I don't know what their budget was, but it was a joke. There was...like they had big, like, grand pianos and...all this and...
Zakk: ...lights, guitars, everything...you know, dude...
Mike: ...full-time guys that were comin' up...like techs that were there. Their band wasn't even there.
Zakk: No. Axl...Axl shows up about 2 in the morning and, uh, you know, we were down there...and I mean, it was...He don't mess around, bro...but the whole thing is...
Mike: He still doesn't have a record...
Zakk: No. Well...
Mike: ...where's the record?
Zakk: Dude he kicks ass! So, I mean, that's all that matters.
Mike: Yeah, I know. Still...
Zakk: He's a good guy and stuff like that, but I mean, the whole thing is...We're down there playin' some, uh, stuff, but the runnin' gag was...'cause you know once, once you get, uh...Me and Axl were talkin' on the...You know, on...actually, I was out here in Manhattan when we were talkin' about doin' somethin' together, but once you get managers and lawyers and all that crap involved and stuff like that...They were, like, goin'...talkin' about money and stuff like that and we were gettin' TANKED that night. And we were just listenin' to stuff. I'm playin' Black Label stuff. He's playin' me the GN'R stuff and I said...Del James goes, "So, what the hell ever happened, man?" And he just goes...Axl goes, "Well, Zakk, man. I heard you wanted 3 million up front and you wanted your own tour bus." I go, "Really?" I go, "What do you think, I'm some dishrag whore? I wanted 9 million up front..."
[laughter]
Zakk: ...and I wanted 2 tour buses, man." You know...so, but I mean...But that was the runnin' joke. I mean...we were just, like...and we all started laughin', man. So, it, it was no big deal. I mean, Axl's, Axl's good people and, uh...I mean, I love the guy. I think he's the, like, one of the most sickest lead singers that's ever lived, so, uh...but you know...And the new stuff that their doin' it's, it's slammin', man. But it just didn't work...but I mean, you know. I mean, when I talked to Axl I said, "Dude, we coulda done this thing on the phone. You know, TOGETHER." But, uh, you know...whatever happens happens, man.
