Just when you thought Axl Rose was out of new tricks, the Guns N' Roses frontman has signed DJ Mix Master Mike (Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beastie Boys) as one of the opening acts on the band's first North American tour in nine years, according to the DJ's rep. The outing kicks off on November 7 at General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Guns N' Roses have added a chunk of dates and an opening act to the North American leg of their Chinese Democracy World Tour
Mixmaster Mike has been tapped as an opener for the entire tour, which has now expanded by 11 dates, including two-night stands in Las Vegas and Los Angeles on Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 3-4, respectively, according to a spokesperson for Mixmaster Mike. The new dates mostly cover the Western portion of the U.S., which had previously been left off the itinerary, and also include a New Year's Eve stop in San Jose, Calif.
One of the new dates, Nov. 22 in Pittsburgh (Mellon Arena), was originally scheduled for Lexington, Ky. (Rupp Arena). Whether or not that date would be rescheduled was unknown at press time, according to a spokesperson for Clear Channel Entertainment. No reason for the change was given.
The tour, the band's first extensive outing in nine years, kicks off in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Nov. 7.

GUNS N' ROSES were reportedly in Shanghai, China last week filming the video for the first single off their long-awaited album, Chinese Democracy. The clip is believed to be for the track "Catcher In The Rye", which is rumored to be going to radio at the end of November.
Chinese Democracy will reportedly contain 18 tracks, including three of the four new songs aired during the band's recent live performances — "Madagascar", "Chinese Democracy" and "The Blues". The latter cut is also said to have been tentatively tapped as the album's second single, to be released sometime in early 2003.
No official release date has yet been announced for Chinese Democracy, but unconfirmed reports suggest that December 3rd or 10th are being thrown around as the most likely possibilities, with the European release set to take place one day earlier.

Guns N' Roses fans will be sorry to hear that an e-mail making the rounds on the various fan boards and mailing lists is, indeed, a hoax, and that a single has NOT been shipped to any radio stations.
The e-mail is purported to be from an unnamed DJ at Chicago's 96.7 Will Rock (WLLI-FM), telling a fan that the station is "in possession of a GNR single," adding that "it came with strict legal repercussions if it was played prematurely" and "only a handful of people here were eligible to hear an advanced copy."
But Music Director Lonny Tyler tells allstar that the station has NOT received a single, but it has received dozens of e-mails from curious fans. He says, "It sounds like someone with way too much time on their hands is sending out mass e-mails saying that they're from our station."
The e-mail, which referred to the unnamed song as "breathtaking," also included a bogus track listing to Chinese Democracy, the band's perpetually pending new album.
Interscope publicist Terry Wang was also unaware of any GNR advances, although at least one radio station contacted said it had been told a single may be forthcoming at the end of October.

GUNS N' ROSES are studying the possibility of arranging a show in Montreal, Quebec as part of the group's North American tour this fall, according to Canadian music channel Musique Plus.
GN'R's last performance in Montreal, on August 8th, 1992, ended in a riot after frontman Axl Rose walked off stage 50 minutes into the set after complaining of vocal problems.

Boston (September 30th, 2002) – Tickets for the North American leg of the GUNS N' ROSES “Chinese Democracy” World Tour went on sale this weekend in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston with an overwhelming response from ticket buyers. The New York date set for December 5 at Madison Square Garden sold out in fifteen minutes with the other cities doing close to capacity business. “We are thrilled with the sales,” stated Arthur Fogel, president of Clear Channel Entertainment's Touring Division. “We knew this was going to be a big tour but this even exceeded our expectations.”

HOOBASTANK are extremely close to signing on as the opening act on some of GUNS N' ROSES' upcoming North American tour dates, according to Allstar.
Back in August, HOOBASTANK singer Doug Robb confirmed to Boston Herald that the band had been approached by GUNS N' ROSES about going on tour together. "There's just talk about it," Robb said. "As of right now we are doing our own headlining tour at the end of September. We're not going to sit around waiting on anyone else's schedule.'' "I used to listen to [Axl Rose] all the time, see him on TV,'' said Robb. "Now we get a call from his people requesting us because he's a fan. Who-ah, it's really strange."
All the tickets for GUNS N' ROSES' Madison Square Garden show in New York City on December 5th were snapped up within 10 minutes after they went on sale on Saturday morning, September 28th. Over 11,000 tickets are said to have been sold in Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston — the other three markets where tickets were put on sale over the weekend. (9/24/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- Guns N' Roses are ready to announce the American leg of their world tour. Tickets go on sale this Saturday (September 2 . Dates to go on sale this weekend include the First Union Center in Philadelphia on December 6, the Allstate Arena in Chicago on November 18, the Fleet Center in Boston on December 2, and Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 5.
As for the forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy, there was no word as to when that would be released.
Guns N' Roses appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards in late August and played a medley of hits that included a preview of a new song titled "Madagascar." The band features Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Chris Pitman (keyboards), Brain (drums), Buckethead (guitar), Robin Finck (guitar), Tommy Stinson (bass), and Richard Fortus (guitar).

Robert John: The Guns N' Roses Photo Collection
From their inception in 1985 right to the present, Guns N' Roses has been one of the most popular and controversial groups in music. Wherever the band went, from the studio to the stage and everywhere in between, photographer Robert John was there with them. His photos serve as visual history of the band, documenting their entire sixteen-year career.
Now for the first time Robert is making photos from his archive available to collectors and the public. Through unlimited access to the band, both onstage and off, you will get to the opportunity to see the band in their most public and private moments, all beautifully captured by his camera.

05 Sep 2002 -- It is rumoured within the interweb that Axl Rose and his boys will be kicking off a 40-plus date US tour late this coming October.
However, no dates have yet been announced but the grape vine suggests that an October 22nd date at the Allstate Arena in Chicago is in the planning stages. There are also unconfirmed mentions of the band asking for a guaranteed $500,000 per show.
If this tour gets the go ahead, it will be the first proper US tour for Guns N' Roses since the $13.7 million grossing 29 date tour way back in '93. They successfully toured Japan and Europe in the summer including the Leeds festival.
