This is track one, side one, album one, and a very fitting beginning. It begins gradually; distant, dischordant, ghostly guitar chords that slowly merge into a screeching wail, underneath a slowly building drum beat that gets faster and louder, like an approaching menace, until the whole erupts into a sinister, low drone as the harrowing, dramatic vocals begin.
I also think of it as the feeling you might get waking up in the middle of a battlefield as your mind shifts into gear and the horrible realisation breaks in on you - Oh my God - it wasn't a nightmare, it's real ...
After the second chorus the guitars wail again and the drums pound brutally; the repetition of the chorus and the hammering noise drives the violence and horror into you like a spike through the skull.
This track is very typical of the Comsats' early sound; dark, hard and menacing with only the naked humanity of Steve's voice offering a glimmer of daylight, yet with also the hook that grabs you and doesn't let go ... though in this track it's a bloody meat hook! Brilliant, blood-curdling, spine-chilling rock.
