The Lyra Chronicles: Mortal's Dance
1998

Vivian sat in the hotel bar after a concert, feeling completely left out of the band. Siona and Rick were upstairs and Vivian didn’t want to intrude on their time together. They were so close, Vivian often felt unnecessary around them. Joe and Sav sat in a corner with Lyra, totally oblivious to their surrounding at the moment. He could go over and sit with Phil, who was talking to Malvin at the moment, but he knew Leesha was here somewhere, waiting for him to get done.

It was hard to believe that the vampires managed to fit so well into their normal lives. They would show up, sometimes one or two, sometimes all five of them, and pick up right where they’d left off with the band. If any of their girlfriend’s were present, then the vampire simply acted like a star-struck groupie or someone from the record company until the woman was gone. Sav’s girlfriend Paige had stayed home this trip because she was getting rather far along with her pregnancy and didn’t feel up to touring. And Joe was single again at the moment, after a real bang up fight with Bobbi. But Viv knew they’d been through this before and they always got back together. Rick and Siona didn’t have to hide from anyone, she was even recognized by the fans as his girlfriend now, though no one knew what she was. And since his breakup with Anita, Leesha had been keeping Phil company almost every night.

Julie had taken their daughter and left Vivian the month before, saying she just couldn’t take his lifestyle any more. So Vivian sat alone, watching the bar and trying to find something to do. He looked at the bar and saw a beautiful blond sitting alone, staring down into her drink. There was something about her that drew Vivian to his feet almost unconsciously. He walked over and sat beside her, asking, “Is this seat taken?”

“No,” she said quietly. Then she looked up and said in astonishment, “Aren’t you Vivian Campbell?”

“Guilty,” he said softly. “And you are?”

“Me, oh, I’m Kerrie,” she answered. “I love your music!”

“Buy you a drink?” he asked. Then he looked down and saw her motion to her full glass, saying, “Well, I just got this one.”

“Um, then the next round is on me, okay?” Vivian said, laughing to cover his blunder. “So, what are you doing here?”

“Actually, hoping to run into you and your band mates. But you mostly,” she said, then blushed at her admission. “God, did I really say that?”

“Yes, luv. You did,” he chuckled. She turned away, trying to hide her embarrassment, but Vivian put a finger under her chin and pulled her face back to his. Then he whispered, “Hey, don’t want to lose you so quickly! No need to worry, luv, we hear that all the time.”

“I’m sure you do,” Kerrie said sadly.

“But I’ve never heard it about me from someone so beautiful,” Vivian said softly. “Would you like to dance?”

“Um, sure,” she answered quickly. Vivian took her by the hand and led her to the floor, pulling her gently into his arms. They swayed slowly to the music as Vivian moved closer to her. When she looked up at him, he leaned down and gave her a slow, soft kiss, weakening her knees instantly. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down to her. Feeling his hands wander over her back, Kerrie melted into his body, wondering why she was suddenly acting like such a hussie. Yet this was Vivian Campbell! She’d admired him for so long, being in his arms seemed almost natural.

Vivian’s head snapped up as Siona crossed into the room, followed by Rick. Vivian looked down at Kerrie and said quietly, “I’ll be back in a minute, okay?”

Kerrie nodded, obviously disappointed that their mood had been broken. She wandered back to the bar as Vivian walked up to Siona and gave her a sheepish grin. Siona smiled up at him and said, “What’s wrong, luv? Didn’t mean to take you away from your girl.”

“Really?” Vivian asked. “I didn’t think you’d approve.”

“Luv, I’m not here to keep you captive,” she chuckled. “Our bond remains, even if we’re never physically together again. I’ll always be there to look out for you.”

“Thanks, Siona,” Vivian said, giving her a quick kiss before heading back to Kerrie’s side. Rick and Siona moved on to the table where Lyra sat with Sav and Joe. Lyra looked up and laughed, “Looks like Viv’s found someone a bit younger, luv.”

“Well, I can’t begrudge him that,” Siona smiled, looking over at Rick. “I’m perfectly happy with one, unlike SOMEONE I know.”

Everyone turned and looked at Lyra, who shrugged her shoulders and said, “I couldn’t ever make up my mind!” She kissed Joe and Sav quickly, then laughed and changed the subject.

Over the next couple of hours, Lyra and Siona could both feel Vivian’s interest in the girl rising. When they saw him lead her out of the bar, the two vampires exchanged a knowing glance and laughed.

When they made it to the hall, Kerrie looked up at Vivian and said sadly, “I’d better call it a night. I’ve got a long drive home tonight.”

“Why don’t you wait and make the drive tomorrow, if you want to go,” Vivian said softly. Kerrie couldn’t believe her ears. Was he really asking her to stay with him? He clarified things almost immediately, saying, “I’d really like the chance to get to know you better, luv.”

“You want me to stay?” she asked uncertainly.

“Matter of fact, I do,” he whispered, pulling her lips up to his. She could feel the urgency in his kiss as he moved her body closer to his. “Will you stay with me?”

“Yes,” she whispered breathlessly. Vivian slipped his arm around Kerrie’s shoulders as they walked wordlessly up to his room, pausing for the occasional kiss on the elevator and on the way to the room. Kerrie smiled up at him as he unlocked the door to his room, still in shock at her good fortune.

Vivian took her into his arms and whispered, “Luv, you are one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen, do you know that?”

She shook her head, not believing the words she was hearing from him. He kissed her slowly and said, “Are you, luv, believe me.”

Her hands went to his hair, capturing his lips again with her own. He picked her up gently and carried her to the bed, laying her down softly. It seemed like his hands covered her entire body, gentle, soothing strokes all over her flesh and through her clothes. Then his fingers undid her blouse quickly so his hands had better access to her soft skin. She sat up and shrugged it off, letting him unfasten her bra and remove it as well. He fell on her breasts hungrily, wanting to consume her at that moment.

She tugged his shirt over his head, needing the warmth against hers desperately. His tongue lapped gently at her nipple, sending shivers down her spine with each touch. She grabbed for his jeans, opening them after a moment. He stood up and slipped out of them, then leaned down and pulled her pants off her as well. His guitar roughened fingertips ran lightly up her thighs as he lowered his head to her throbbing sex, his tongue working slowly between the folds of her flesh and finding her sensitive nub. Sucking gently, tongue working nimbly over her, he could feel her moans reverberating through her body. His tongue went lower, moving inside her, tasting the sweetness he found there. His fingers massaged her clit as his tongue moved ever so slowly in and out of her wet depths. Her hips bucked against him as she felt wave after wave of bliss flow over her body.

As she writhed beneath him, her climax overwhelming her senses, his hands moved slowly up her body. He massaged her flesh gently, postponing his own desire in favor of her pleasure. His fingers kneaded her breast gently as she begged, “PLEASE, VIVIAN, I NEED YOU! NOW!”

“Yes, luv,” he whispered softly, finally letting himself enter her body tenderly. Each gentle push sent her spiraling further over the edge. Gradually, those careful gentle thrust were overtaken by their frantic, passionate need for completion, his body hammering into hers as her hips came up off the bed to meet every plunge. He called her name, the urgency in his voice unmistakable as he said, “Baby, please, cum for me! I want to feel you cum!”

“OH, GOD, VIVIAN! I AM, I’M CUMMING FOR YOU, VIV!” she said as her body was wracked with another orgasm. Vivian couldn’t take anymore, his own body begging for his release. He slammed into her one last time as his seed poured into her, draining all his energy with that issue. He collapsed onto her, holding her tenderly as they kissed. He pulled her into his arms and grabbed a blanket, throwing it over both of them even as Kerrie started to drift off to sleep. And within moments, the only sound in the room was that of their soft breathing.

The following morning, Kerrie woke to the sound of a closing suitcase. She looked at Vivian sadly and asked, “So, you’re off then?”

He stared down at her, his eyes laughing as he said, “Well, I hoped it would be we’re off, luv. I’ve got a bus to catch and I was hoping after last night you might be willing to be on it with me.”

“But, but, I don’t have anything with me! I need to go home and get some stuff,” she said, suddenly panicked that he might leave without her.

“Don’t worry, luv. We’ll pick up what you need on the road,” he said softly. “Now hop on it and get dressed, we don’t want to hold everyone up!” She jumped out of bed and threw her clothes on as Vivian took his cases down to the bus. When he got back, he took her hand and said, “Ready?”

“I’ve never been more ready in my life,” she said with a smile. They walked quickly downstairs and boarded the bus where the others waited, snuggling together as the driver took them off to their next destination.
