Dear Survivor Archive readers,

I'm posting this photo from Jerry taken several years ago. Jerry sent me a bunch more, however some are shots of Dave Bickler and I've decided against posting those older images. When DB left the lineup in 2000, Frankie requested I remove his bio page. This .jpg appeared on the rock2/archive home page last April, but it's a cool shot that deserves diggin' out of the storage bin again. With lead singer Jimi. Thanks, Jerry, for submitting your images.

I've been asked to be one-half of the publicity and advertising team for a special humane society event taking place in early April. Speaking of critters and domestic pets, it brings to mind a story I'm hauling out of the dust bucket to share w/you. Go back to 1995. Lineup was Dave, Jim Peterik, and Frankie Sullivan. Mid-august. Muscular Dystrophy benefit show at a bar in Janesville, WI. I've got the dates and names archived somewhere on my '95 calendar. My daughter and I attended and sat on the sand-covered ball diamond. Back then most everyone hung back, they didn't crowd the stage. Frank's wife and kids were there, and after the concert I saw Gloria carrying around their dachshund Rudy. I believe the Sullivan family was headed up north to their cottage in Eagle River afterwards. In the SUV. (In the light drizzle that followed the gig, one of band members shared their umbrella cover w/us.) Rudy was often talked about on the Survivor site years ago, in FS' band notes. We even saw his picture!

For all the companion pets like Rudy, and in memory of Rudy, I'm devoting time away from music stuff -- To give shelter animals the best chance possible of finding a loving home.

It'll be loads of fun working w/like-minded animal lovers and contacting the press & newspapers to cover the event!

Regards, Jamie/J.

In spring of 2000 after Jimi Jamison reunited with the band, Melodicrock.com webmaster Andrew McNeice made attempts to contact Frankie for an interview. Andrew had spoken w/Jimi and received emails from former lead singer Dave Bickler (as archived in my correspondence file from AJM).

Phone calls were exchanged between parties, messages left on machines, but unfortunately Frank and Andrew never connected. Who knows?! Rick Weigand was placed in charge and "on the road" w/the band during that time. An old enthusiastic pal of mine, crazy chi-town Marty, was wondering what happened? I don't keep in touch w/Martimers like I did years ago ('cause my primary interests these days are family and critter-minded), still I hope you're lurking Chi-Town! You there?

Yes, Andrew and Frankie were scheduled to connect, notes exchanged, but stuff got screwed up & maybe that's why the lines are choppy to this day. I remember talking w/Andrew on the phone around that time. Gosh, his Aussie accent was a hoot and not real easy to decipher, but charming to hear. I rarely visit Andrew's site, definitely not as much as I did 2-3 years ago. I don't like the hype, Van Halen this or that, and non-confirmed info; I'm not into all the AOR bands Andrew promotes. That's definitely a popular spot, nonetheless, for worldwide AOR fans to surf at, or visit, and see album info and reviews! Althou' gossip stuff sucks, IMO.

I imagine Andrew would put in the time, and be thrilled, to post some bona fide Survivor news, clips, etc., if either Frank or Andrew reached out Across the miles. With the internet these days, that's pretty easy to do!

Take care, AJM, and hope your little one is getting Big ... or nearing the terrible twos?! (It was sweet to preview some of the Pride Of Lions soundbites.)

Cheers, Longtime listener/Archive webmaster

Hello Archive Fans,

Through the years this site has received more hits than I imagined would ever happen. More importantly than numbers, however, are the everyday people contacts and emails I've exchanged w/fans throughout the changes taking place in Survivor's lineup and history. It always brings a smile when a note drops in my inbox asking for help regarding this or that, or how do I find this CD, does it contain "Rebel Girl"?, etc. Which has happened several times since I added the last webnote in November.

Just want to drop in quickly to add I won't be removing the site. It will remain online, although my priorities are focused elsewhere. Nevertheless, the rise in visits justifies the reasons to leave it "as is"! Or bolster the pages, when time allows, with the garage-load of stuff I've saved. Geez, I remember a time back in the nineties when I plunked down $20-25 for a Too Hot To Sleep poster from an Illinois recordfest vendor and fan. His girlfriend had it, and he didn't want to hold onto it; nor she!

Back to the future and current state of affairs. If and when Survivor releases a brand new CD w/Jimi Jamison as songwriter and vocalist, it'll be something to check out. Meanwhile, I should dispose or let go of that 80's poster.

I highly doubt we'll ever see a new Survivor CD filled with songs written only by Frankie Sullivan, the remaining original member. Now I'm at the point where only new music will be worth the time to hear them in concert! And my music interests are changing... Rock2Archive visitors can relate to the '80s and listening to the hits they produced back then. Eye of the Tiger gets played at football games that my college daughter attends. She talks Survivor, now and then, when mingling w/music execs in Los Angeles.

Longtime listener Justin from Singapore expressed interest in seeing some of the old photographs I collected. Photos from previous lineups, and concert snapshots contributed by fans who've had contact with me over the years. Digging out some of those archived images is still on my "to do" list. But not a priority anymore. I can't guarantee I'll get them posted, but there's hope that my schedule will allow an occasional new photo when time allows.

Hello archive readers, Hope you're doin' well and enjoying the small updates I find time to post. It was helpful to lurk and participate on the survivormusic board and read what you had to say about Frank Sullivan's lengthy guitar solo at recent shows. Keep your comments comin'! The freedom of speech and ability to voice opinions on the board makes it a great forum, and especially for longtime listeners of Survivor's music who aren't able to attend shows. Or for those who live across the miles and may not have ever seen Survivor in concert.

Hopefully Frank Sullivan will trim down the 11-minute? solo and take everyone's feedback and opinions to heart. Count me in on the feedback. I, too, would not care to hear a long solo when there's so much music they could be playing, or they could spring a couple brand new tunes on us. Long guitar solos, bass solos, drum solos, never suited my tastes. I felt Shooting Star handled the spotlight on musician's solos very well. They gave each dude a time to shine, display their talents, but didn't overdo it. Bravo to keeping the audience's attention and not overdoing a solo.

Compliments again to the webmasters who run fan-created/fan-maintained or the official band websites. My job as wildlife rehabilitator and bunny mom has definitely rearranged my priorities this summer. It's been fantastic to assist the neighbors and community members when they call on me to help out. Therefore, the website updates here have slowed down. On the bright side, I don't want to let the Archive site go completely dormant, but wildlife concerns (baby critters) and family and assorted projects determines how much time I can devote to updates.

Visit Flip's AOR site and jj.com. Cheryl Ann and Flip probably haven't received threats as I have concerning communications with the singers/songwriters/musicians they run sites for! A former website experience has certainly affected the way I feel about listening to music right now.

Please visit LightAngelWings StrikeABalance.net site. I just hopped over for five minutes to read her newly posted Josh Ramos interview. LightAngel does an excellent job! Reading Ramos' interview today reminded me of the community participation and feedback with regards to working w/fellow wildlife enthusiasts. Josh said something like "find what you love to do, and do it." - Thanks, LightAngel, for conducting the interview. (Josh Ramos' inspirational words has rubbed off on me WRT critter rehabilitation.)

For now, I'll hang onto the stash and boxes of archived stuff. Will drop in to update items you provide and finish the promised links and Jerry's photo page.

Here's something I found buried in my stash of Survivor stuff. See the two printouts below. Wow, things have changed, and the Webmaster does a great job with the current site, and I'm sure the band members were just as thrilled to have these two things up on their Very First Webpage. Don't know what happened to the gentleman or woman who ran it? Back in 1996 when I made the printouts, it was cool for us netheads to see the marketing wheels in motion and get a cyberlink to what's happening...

Enjoy the old printouts -

Stay tuned to jimpeterik.com, frankiesullivan.com, and survivormusic.com for the latest music projects from the band's cofounders.

Flip Valero, a longtime listener, bullet board participant, and team member in the network of fan-created Survivor sites, asked me to help locate some very old photos of the Band from 1978/1979. Thankfully longtime Survivor fan Marty S. from Chicago loaned me several of his snapshots to scan for use on this DJEvers Archive website (when he knew this site was under construction). Two of Marty's fan-taken concert pics are shown above. Yes, that's Marc Droubay, Survivor's 2nd (best-known) drummer who joined the lineup after the release of Survivor's debut. Now I need to go searching for the archived photo gallery including drummer Gary Smith and Dennis Keith Johnson on bass. Thank heavens Marty S. brought along a camera back then! This site benefits from the contributions of ancient photos Marty has contributed. Both Flip and Marty have been a huge help to me.

... About the image of Marc twirling his stick! This was taken before the Premonition album or right around that time. When Frank and the lineup did the WNNX-FM Atlanta radio station interview in Nov. of 2000 (right after the Styx/REO/Survivor Tour took a hiatus 'cause Kevin Cronin got socked w/a bug), FS mentioned seeing a photo "out there" of Marc w/the '80s styled hair. Because the deejays and the band were jokin' around about big hair in the eighties. Poofy hair. Kinda like his hairstyle in the picture here. I'm guesstimating FS was referring to the snapshot of Marc I had posted on the Survivor/Archive Site home page -- but he didn't specify exactly where the photo was seen?

Another offbeat comment about MD-related characteristics. I've watched Bryan Hitt and Todd Sucherman on drums, but most recently we saw the band Pinmonkey. Rick Schell, Pinmonkey's drummer, had several mannerisms similar to the drumming and stick-twirling style of Marc Droubay. Was kinda neat to this avid Pinmonkey listener and previous Survivor concert attendee.

FYI, my recordfest vendor/friend Marty S. attended the shows when Survivor was first getting started and playing the club scene in Chicago.

Now that I'm scanning back through archive stuff, I came across this Wed, 29, Nov 2000 email note from Frank. He asked that I please add a link to his Band Notes. Here they are in case you haven't got 'em bookmarked:

These little stick men tell the story.
I haven't had sufficient freetime to scan everything I've tucked away; it'll take time.
