Out of the cultural wasteland of central Florida come The Future Legends, with music that is both innovative and nostalgic. The Future Legends combine well-crafted songs with atmospheric sound and mesmerizing live performances. Though they've been compared to performers like David Bowie, Peter Murphy and The Cure, The Future Legends are indisputably a unique group.
The Future Legends began playing in April of 2000, after singer Eric Legend and former lead guitarist Brian Kennedy had been playing for a while as the acoustic duo KC Popular. The pair hooked up with rhythm section Jason Bennett (drums) and Sarah Zachrich (bass) and began playing shows around Gainesville almost immediately, building a reputation as a tight and talented band. After a few months, the Legends were ready to take the next step: recording.
They started laying down tracks in August 2000 with the Gainesville-based Mike Rotolante. Keeping it local allowed the band to take a more detail-oriented approach to recording, adding lush keyboard arrangements and even writing a song on keyboard which was later translated to live performance (Broken Pieces). After nine months of tweaking, The Future Legends released an impressive debut.
The band has been playing "musical guitarists" for the last few months, but Eric is picking up the ax once again to become the sole guitar player. With the addition of Ashley Dean on keyboards, the Legends' new sound promises to be more lullaby than arena rock-- albeit a pretty rockin' lullaby.
In the near future, the Legends plan on widening their scope, playing both local and out-of-town shows and securing a record deal.
