Do you remember back in the 80s & in the early 90s when MTV used to be cool? Me too! I was born in the 80s & was raised on MTV!!! MTV got me into bands like Metallica and Alice in Chains and the Stone Temple Pilots! That's when it used to be good... now they expose you to non stop shitty pop w/ the occasional shitty rap/rock hybrid that I dread ever so much! It's sad to see where MTV has gone! Sure you hear bitching & probably do a lot of bitching yourself as to how much you hate the pop bullshit and non-stop rap that MTV airs... but just because MTV sucks so badly, that's why they released MTV2... I admit, it's a nice attempt. I can actually catch some old Soundgarden and Jane's Addiction on there. But it's still not offering much... the main reason that I decided to go & type this is for one reason...

Tonight I was watching the MTV2 Rock program & it was the first video which came on... it was my first time ever seeing the video... I was excited to watch it... but as I sat through it, I was SO fucking disappointed.... not in the Union Underground, but in MTV...
I'm sure you've probably noticed that ever since the Columbine incident, MTV has begun editing songs "for the better"... Remember Papa Roach's "Last Resort"? Sure, Papa Roach sucks, but just hearing the editing job... It was HORRIFYING!!!! And they keep doing that! I hear worse things said on WWF than what they'll let you get away w/ in music videos!!! You're not allowed to say anything that relates to violence, death, drugs... They're taking the best parts out of the damn songs!!! Ever see the video for Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness"!?! They cut out the ENTIRE portion where David Draiman is screaming at his mother! They just cut it out & paste two halves together! It's pathetic!!!
Now... try & understand this w/o becoming overwhelmed.... "Revolution Man" is the ONLY clean song on the entire CD! Sure, "Trip With Jesus" doesn't have a nasty word in it but you just KNOW the religious groups & TV critics would absolutely LOVE that one!!! Right!?! Anyway, you have one COMPLETELY clean song on the whole fucking CD... but what's that??? MTV STILL finds a way to edit it... and by doing so, they destroy the meaning of the entire song!!! If you don't understand, simply observe... to the best of my memory, I will type the lyrics to the edited version of "Revolution Man"...

And there you have it... Edited in 4 different places! Is that fucking INSANE or what!?! In case you missed something, "One more time and you'll see red" was originally "One more time and you'll be dead"... which is a little bit off... I mean... to be angry and to be dead are 2 completely different things!!! Next, "It was a burden in his head" was originally "It was a bullet in his head"... once again, that's a pretty nice difference... Third, "Listen while I load this one" was "Listen while I load my gun"... now COME ON!!! Can you honestly not laugh at that one... I dunno... "Load this one" just makes me giggle like an 8th grader!!! Finally... "Steppin' on her diamonds" was "Trippin' on her diamonds". I can't really see why that one would have to go... I guess it depends on how you take "trippin'" to mind... But if they can let Weezer make a video of "H***pipe" (aka "Hashpipe"), shouldn't they allow UU to use the word "trippin'" in a song??? Hell, the fucking Kottonmouth Kings had a video!!! Do they even realize what "Kottonmouth" means!?!
I think this really does prove it... morons work at MTV... sex is good, violence is bad... despite the fact that the 2 should come packaged! It's moments like these that make me thankful for VH1... at least I can watch Rock Show on Fridays... Scott Ian (da man!!!) plays Slayer videos, goddammit!!! MTV's editing has gone too far & has pissed me off to the point where if it wasn't for Jackass & WWF, I'd erase MTV from my channels... just like I did to CMT!!!
