Donnas Story

Donna's Story

If this helps only one person, or one person can relate, then here is my story.

My name is Donna. I was raised by my grandparents and my grandfather was thought to have Huntington Disease, but at that time, no positive proof was available. So I thought he was crazy, and growing up was no picnic. My grandparents fought all of the time, and I tried to protect my grandmother, so he would not hit her or strangle her. I lost most of my childhood memmories. Now years later, I knew what was wrong. No child or adult should have to live life that way. HD took a lot away from me while growing up and now it has me, for I was diagnosed as having HD.

I am in the early stages and was lucky to be blessed with good humor and look at things differently. Nothing is the end of the world.

I was so full of life, vibrant and an on the go person. Now, I have no feelings, and can't drive, and need help with bathing and walking. I took all these things for granted and now I look at things in a whole different outlook.

Our family is estranged from one another so support comes from elsewhere.

I lost a brother from HD - his life ended at 52.I had a biological mother with HD and she just passed away August 2006.

HD has destroyed a lot of things, and families are suffering, so PLEASE find a CURE. I, like many others have children and grandchildren. They know I have HD, and I want to see these ones grow.
