This is the most unique fundraiser in Canada for the Huntington Society
The Annual Trapshoot for Huntington brings in people from all over the province, and gets international recognition.
Over the last few years, we have grown, and over time, will be one of the biggest fundraisers in this country for the society.
We have raised well over $95,000 dollars over 12 years, and intend to grow each year.
As I have said, the Trapshoot for Huntington has been on radio stations CFCO,CKUE,CKSY, as well as CKCO-TV, and WDIV Detroit, an NBC affiliate. We have also been in such national magazines as Ontario Out of Doors, Canadian Shooting Sports, and Canadian Outdoor Heritage Alliance.
We all know the stigma behind the firearm in Canada, and we are letting people know that responsible firearms owners are out there, doing something positive for the community, and for people all over the country.
WHAT IS TRAPSHOOTING ??
Trapshooting is a very old sport. It used to be the sport of kings.
The concept is very simple- hit a 5" clay bird going about 40 miles an hour, thrown from a machine.
When you are trapshooting, there are 5 "stations",or places for you to stand on to shoot. You take 5 shots, at 5 targets (birds) at each station. If you've ever wondered why there are 25 shells in a box of shotshells, now you know. This was not a number picked at random. The targets are thrown away from you, as said, at about 40 miles an hour. Depending on the angle they come out (up to 45 degrees), you have to "lead" or get the shot in front of the target to hit it. It does take some practise, but believe me, it is a tremendous game to play.
You can go to www.remington.com and look in their site. There is a great amount of information to help you along.
In the Trapshoot for Huntington, we have a 100 bird event. This means the total amount of targets is 100. We shoot 50 in the morning, and then 50 after lunch. There is a lewis system, which will put you into a division. This enables you to compete with other shooters of your skill. There are 3 divisions when we shoot. The top overall shooter with the highest score out of 100 is our "Top Gun", and their name is engraved onto our plague.
I started the Trapshoot for Huntington in 1998, at the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club. The members there are just fantastic in supporting this cause. We are all like a family there. When someone needs help, we all jump in.
The 13th Annual Trapshoot for Huntingon will be held SATURDAY AUGUST 7th 2010
