Spenser News

This is the latest news about my son and his development. If you have a baby, this might be fun to read.

5/2/01 - Spenser has 2 little teeth now. He loves to chew on things (especially his own hands and our shoulders), but is unsure of what the teeth are actually for. He gnaws on his toys constantly Unfortunately, the teething part isn't as fun as the rest of him. He has woken up during the night several times now. And just when I thought that phase was behind me.

We took him to the petting zoo this past weekend and let him see all the animals there. There were goats, pigs, cows, oxen, chickens, baby chicks, horses, rabbits, and sheep. The funniest parts were when one of the sheep went "BAA" and he began just balling. It really scared him. It was also really cute when I held up a little baby chick for him to see and he started to pat it on the head. I had to quickly take it out of his reach before he patted the poor thing to death. Finally, something smaller then him! But I think he was really watching the animals, especially the pigs. They really fascinated him with their snorting.

He has learned to wave. In his own sort of baby way, that is. He just opens and shuts his hand, but he does it when you wave and say "goodbye" or "hello", so at least he is associating it with a greeting. Smart kid, at least I think so.

He rolls over good now and crawls backwards. But I don't think that he is in any hurry to be crawling around. He is more content to either play in his saucer or lay back in his crib and watch the little Kick n Play piano go. He likes to play the keyboard when his uncle (my brother) gets a hold of him. He also loves to pound out e-mail letters on my keyboard. Of course, they look like gibberish to you and me, but to him I am sure they mean something :)

6/15/01 Spense is just about crawling now. He managed to maneuver his way to the large stuffed animal basket that I have in his room when I set him down on the floor this morning while I made his bottle. I walked in to find him sitting there with his hands on the basket looking at me like, "What? I didn't do anything?".

He's up to four teeth now, two on the top and two on the bottom. I have just started giving him some table food. He'll be 9 months old on Tuesday.
