Steve joined Beyond in the late 1984 as their bassist. Earlier when he was
just starting out as a musician, he was persuaded by his brother, Wong Ka Kui,
to learn the keyboard so they could form a band. But Steve didn't like the
keyboard and soon dropped it and picked up the bass. He started playing
with his friends and formed a band of his own, but then when Beyond's bassist
left, Ka Kui asked Steve to join the band.
