The Classics
by Mike Fisher
Roger Ebert has "The Great Movies." James Berardinelli has his All-Time Top 100. Now I have "The Classics." "The Classics" is not a collection of my reviews of films that are so-called "classics." Granted, there are some of those films that are routinely called "classic" films which will be appearing on the list, including "Casablanca," "Singin' in the Rain," and "Annie Hall" among others. But "The Classics" is simply a collection of films which I think are some of the very best ever made. In addition to the titles above, I will be writing reviews of films which aren't immediately associated with classic film--such as "High Fidelity," "A Hard Day's Night," and "Two Girls and a Guy"--because I think that they are some of the true classics of the cinema. I've seen somewhere around 1000 films in my lifetime (pretty good for a 16-year-old, I think), so I like to think of my opinion as valid. I write these reviews because (a) it's fun, and (b) I think that these articles might make anyone who bothers to read them interested in seeing some of the movies on the list. But that's up to you. If you don't trust my opinion, don't see the film. But if you do (or you just think a film sounds interesting), by all means see the film. These are the classics. At least I think so.
