end of the 1996 there was a strange feeling was in the air in fantasy world the astro dancers were closed and so was the pirate ship. so the 1997 season came and fantasy world was empty nothing there apart from the Black Hole and what looked like a mud pit which was surrounded by a huge fence and every now and then a sign saying "Worlds First Ride Opens March 1998" also there were security guards and when anyone asked them what was going on the replied "14/06/98" they weren't giving away anything. further and further into the season the deeper and deeper the hole grew near to the end of the 1997 season pieces of track were arriving to the construction site and so people we starting to wonder what the hell it was going to be and what to expect of the nick named "sw4". The 1998 season started and Oblivion...The worlds First Vertical Drop Roller Coaster was open the press coverage was huge it was on the news, advertised on packets of Cornflakes and it was even featured on Blue Peter. Although Oblivion is a short ride it will be the best rush you can find it seriously gets your heart pumping when hanging over the 60meter drop for 3 seconds but once the cart hits the break run at the end you want to ride again.

As soon as you enter the X-Sector you can see the giant drop of Oblivion, you can hear the screams as it holds it's riders staring into the great hole for those few seconds before letting them go plunging... into oblivion. You enter the queue and don't know what to expect, towards the end of the queue just before you enter the station, you are reminded repeatedly that "Oblivion beckons in T-minus 5 minutes", this is where you really start to get nervous. It's when you finally board the train and begin to climb the lift hill that is the worst, no matter how many times you have ridden it before, you spend all the way up and all the way round the corner really wishing you hadn't got on, but then you realise there's only one way down - the drop. The voice at the top says "Don't look down" and you stop, held staring into the drop for 3 seconds, if you are on the front row you can see right down into the hole, and then you are let go, to fall into oblivion. A few seconds later you pop out the other end, feeling totally thrilled and wanting another go - The ultimate thrill ride.

I think oblivion is one of the most scariest rides in Alton
Towers it all ways shits me up knowing that I have got to go on it other
wise I will kick my self for not riding. As soon you get into the X-Sector
you can see oblivion it’s just sitting there waiting for you. I can hear
people screaming and shouting as they go down into oblivion. When your
queuing up for oblivion you can still see the drop you cant help but
looking at it. This is what gets me more nervous. In the station you can
see people board the trains and strapping them self in knowing you are
next line. As you are pulling out of the station you start to go straight
up think to your self “what the hell am I on this for” the clicking of
the chain all most deafens you and then you are at the top coming around
to the drop then you stop and then this mans voice tell you your life is
going end (but it really says "Don't look down") holds you there
for about 3 more seconds and then drops you into oblivion it’s amazing
experience you feel like you are going to hit your head on the rim of the
hole but then you come out the other end shouting “let’s go again”
over all it’s a great ride! |
