The Aftermath of a Drunken Martin Chapter 1: This was not what Danny had in mind when he asked Martin to grab dinner with him. Granted Martin probably didnt consider it a date like Danny had even if it was only on the inside but he really hadnt expected this to happen. He just wanted to make up for the fact that hed been too guilty and scared to see Martin in the hospital and thus he was paying for it now. Martin was drunk. Stone cold drunk. And Martin was a loud whiny drunk too. Least when Danny was getting plastered he was a fun drunk. Martin just liked to bitch and bitch really really loudly. It didnt even matter what he was bitching about. Could be the bar, could be the people in the bar, could be the fact that he had to use a cane, could be because some cop got a haircut and according to Martin it made her look really cheap. How a haircut could make someone look cheap was beyond Danny, but thats what Martin said. Danny had thought they were going to eat burgers at some little place, but Martin had cocked an eyebrow at him and dragged him to some bar he didnt even know about, though Danny didnt really make it a habit to frequent bars. Martin proceeded to order scotch after scotch and downed them in almost an effortless fashion that Danny remembered. Maybe youve had enough there, Fitzie. Danny said trying to get the glass of scotch out of Martins hand. Of course Martin wasnt having any of that. And then Jack hires this new chick Elena. Like I dont know hes hiring her because he thinks Im incompetent. And then she waltzes in thinking shes the shit with all that hair. Seriously who needs that much hair? Apparently Martin had a thing about hair, Danny noted as he continued to try and get the glass out of Martins hand. Martin still wasnt having any of that. And then she like could careless that Im there. Just getting all girly with Sam. Like Im not important. Im Special Agent Fitzgerald for crying out loud! Yes, you are special agent Fitzgerald and it was wrong of her to just dismiss you like that. I dont like her Danny. I want her to go away. Apparently drunk Martin was bitchy and petulant and Danny was so not staring at him pout in that totally adorable way that just made him want to grab Martin and throw him over the bar counter and suck on his bottom lip like it was a piece of candy. You can make her go away right Danny? Martin said. Danny swallowed. Did Martin really have to look up at him with those big blue eyes that were slightly glazed from the alcohol? Did he have to have the stupid flush that made him look oh so pretty? Did he have to drape himself on Dannys chest and act like Danny could be his superman? Danny didnt think so, but apparently drunk Martin was a different creature that the Martin he knew at work. I think thats ultimately Jacks call. Maybe shell move onto white collar like she wants. Danny said. Martin giggled and then proceeded to sit back on his stool. Danny wasnt sure if he was happy not to have Martin invading his personal space or not. Little Danny seemed to enjoy it immensely. You know one call to my dad and shed be history. Martin, you dont ever talk to your dad unless its absolutely important. I know, which shows you how much I dont like her. Martin said. He was pouting again. Danny turned back to his soda and started to down it. It was a good thing he was used to the fizz. I think someones had a little too much to drink. Maybe we should get you home tucked away in your nice warm bed. Danny wasnt thinking about Martins bed. Danny wasnt thinking about Martins bed. Danny wasnt thinking about Martins bed. Danny wasnt thinking about Martins bed or at least thats what he kept telling himself. In actuality he was thinking about Martins bed. He was always thinking about Martins bed and Martin in Martins bed and what he would do to Martin in Martins bed. No, I dont wanna go home. My place is so empty. Martin said and he was pouting again. That had to be a record number of pouts, Danny thought stupidly. It kept his mind off of other thoughts. The tone Martin was using. It sounded like he was getting maudlin. This couldnt be good. Im sure its not that empty. It is. I almost miss my parents being there. Sure they were annoying, but they were there for me. I dont like going back to my place alone. Martin said. Danny sighed. This was not happening to him. He was not going to offer to spend the night in Martin Fitzgeralds apartment. Martin Fitzgerald who hed secretly pined over for like three years now. You know, if you want Fitzie, I could stay with you. Sleep on your couch or something. Danny said and even as the words left his mouth he knew there was something wrong with him. He couldnt believe he was offering to baby-sit Martin. Had Martin been sober he probably would have hit Danny on the nose for suggesting such a thing. Martin was nothing if not independent. It was going to get him into trouble one day. Id like that. Id like that a lot. Danny was doomed. !*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*! Getting a slightly injured, limping Martin up a few flights of stairs had to be the hardest thing Danny had ever done. Martin didnt help one bit either. He was either routinely giggling like well like a drunken idiot or he was bitching. Martin had to be a world class bitcher. Danny would have carried him if he had known Martin was going to give him so much trouble and if he absolutely knew Martin wouldnt kill him for it later when he was sober and more coherent. And for some reason unknown to man Martins elevator was out. Martin had bitched even more about crappy landlords before the made the ascent to his apartment. Alright there we go. Weve got you all tucked into bed. Danny said as he helped Martin sit down on his bed. Im not tucked in. I need to get out of my clothes and then get under the covers. Martin said as if he were talking to a four-year-old. Well, Ill just let you do that. Ill be over on your couch getting comfortable. But Danny. Danny looked over at Martin. He looked like a little boy, hair mussed and ruffled, eyes wide and glassy, shirt wrinkled and tie loose. He was pouting again and Danny resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Yes, Martin? I dont have my cane. And walking up those stairs I had to walk up a lot of stairs today and I didnt like it. I thought you didnt like your cane? Danny asked. I dont, but that doesnt mean I dont need it. Cant you just help me? Its not that hard. Martin asked. It had to have been the tone in combination with the pout and the fact that it was Martin fucking Fitzgerald and if Martin asked nice enough Danny would be willing to jump off the Federal Plaza building for him. Danny sighed and walked over to Martin who was furiously trying to get out of his suit jacket. Danny stopped Martins hands and effortlessly slid off the jacket. Next to go was Martins tie. So how did you know about the pimp? The pimp being a little, I mean. Martin broke into a fit of giggles as Danny tried to take off Martins shoes. I told her that I had a girlfriend in college named Barbara who went by Bobby. Martin said his giggles increasing. And this is funny because? Danny asked. He looked at Martin knowing that the next thing Martin needed off was his pants. Danny hesitated just a little at the thought. Because I never had a girlfriend named Barbara in college. So how did you know? Martin got a gleam in his eyes. He leaned in close and rested his chin on Dannys shoulder. He turned his head so his lips grazed Dannys ear. I had a boyfriend in college named Bobby who used to dress up like a girl. He called himself Barbara. Said that girls named Barbara go by Bobby so why should he, a guy named Bobby, go by Barbara. Couldve been he had a thing for Streisand. Martin said bursting into giggles again. Danny went perfectly stiff. He didnt just hear that. Um Martin did you just say you had a boyfriend? Yup, what? Does that make you uncomfortable? Sex God Danny Taylor with his rotating door of girls. Of course why go for guys. I bet girls just offered to have your first born if you looked there way. I didnt have many girlfriends ever. Right just women you slept with. I didnt have much time for girls in college. Danny said. Martin hmphed and started to unbutton his shirt. Danny looked away. What about Sam? She was pretty enough. She wanted to make Jack jealous. But you like guys? Danny knew Martin would never answer these questions had he been sober. Danny was fully willing to get a tongue lashing in the morning. Most of the time. She just seemed to want to get Jack back so bad. And I really didnt have anything going for me. I thought Why not. Martin said as he threw his shirt down on the side of the bed. He slowly laid himself down on his bed and closed his eyes. You do realize that Jacks still got a thing for her. Its not surprise he treated you like shit back then. Cause gotta say Martin youre not very subtle with your office romances. Apparently Im too subtly with my office crushes. Martin muttered. Danny froze again. He looked down at Martin whose eyes were closed. He looked like he was halfway asleep. Alcohol definitely had a strong effect on him. What? Hmmm cant believe you didnt notice that Ive wanted you to fuck me for the last three years. Martin said cuddling closer to his pillows. Danny sat there, shocked enough to the point where he was paralyzed. Martin hadnt just said that. Danny was hallucinating. The lack of sleep had to be getting to him. Of course he couldnt ask Martin if he had actually said it because a). If he hadnt said it and Danny had been hallucinating it would be awkward and b). Martin was already snoring very loudly. Mouth open and slack and he was out cold and Danny had to resist the urge to shake him. Danny however did not resist the urge to freak out just a little bit as he gathered up his suit jacket and practically ran out of Martins apartment.
