Modes of preservation of eolian
accumulations
Accumulation space may not coincide
with preservation space.
Factors that promote preservation are subsidence and
a rise of the water table. Subsidence occurs because of tectonism,
loading or compaction. A rise in the water table can be relative
with the accumulation subsiding through a static water table,
or be absolute with a climate change to more humid conditions
or the inland response to a rise in sea level. An accumulatin
can also be stabilized by vegetation.
