July Drive

The July Drive has passed and gone,
But not is memories, they go on,
Great men, young men gave their lives
To try and stop all wars and strifes.

O'er that great stretch of No Man's Land,
They tried to beat the foe at hand,
But outdone by the enemy shell
From heavy fire, our brave men fell.

Those proud young men went o'er the top
None of them knew what it was to stop,
They proved their worth with skill and pride
But most of 801 had died.

They faught for freedom and for peace,
And died for wars and strifes to cease,
No cowards blood in them did flow,
No turning back, 'twas onward, go.

And on they went to face the foe
Mid heavy shot and shell, did go,
The battle fury, o'er and done,
Not many left of 801.

Those sturdy men each took the stand
When they had left their Newfoundland
Proud as could be and won the test
That title, honor, Better Than Best.
