Interview With the Bass Man Himself Daniel
This interview took exactly an hour and 8 minutes to do and was done on 28/12/03. Nothing was cut out.
Interviewer
- So hows life been for you lately?
Daniel
- It has been good. Christmas season has come to an end
I
- Tell me what’s it like being in a hugely famous band like the Squareheads?
D - I like it. Sometimes I love it.
I
- What’s your own personal opinion on the band members?
D - Anthony is the wheels, if the Squareheads were a
car. Scott is the drummer, if we were a rock n' roll band. Jan would be the
periscope had we been born a submarine.
I
- Interesting. Is it true that you are the man behind all the lyrics?
D - Nope. That is untrue.
I
- Really? Wow. Who would you say is the most talented Squarehead?
D - That point is moot. We are all talented.
I
- Is there any hidden hating or abuse between the members of the band that no
one knows about?
D
- Everyone knows about the abuse.
I
- Well what kinds of abuse? Like the rumor about Anthony hospitalizing you after
pounding you with a steel pole?
D
- Nah, I didn't get hurt that bad.
I
- Ok then. So where do you see the band in 5 years?
D
- Being advanced 5 whole years, but still lacking any real place to exhibit our
amazing 5 years in the making rock and roll.
I
- Do you think you'll ever make it to the rock and roll hall of fame?
D
- All the time.
I
- Right. Well now that we've talked about the band let’s talk about you. When
did you first meet Anthony?
D
- 3 years ago in high school.
I
- How about Jan?
D - Almost a year later at Paul’s house.
I
- Ok, where
did you learn to play the bass?
D
- I knew I could play it because I had already championed the guitar, but I
adopted my technique from a few of the musicians I really like.
I
- That’s great! When did you learn to play the guitar?
D
- I was in 7th grade, maybe 1998.
I
- So who are your musical influences? Jan?
D
- Santo and Johnny, Probably Kurt Cobain, as I would have never wanted to play
any instrument until he made in impossible for every teenager to not own a
guitar. And Jan keeps me on my toes.
I
- Where do you personally see yourself in 5 years?
D
- Maybe working a better job, maybe I'd have cut my hair.
I
- Umm that’s good. Do you have any stories you can tell me about Johnny
Thunders?
D
- No, I don't really keep up on that guy.
I
- I know I'm going to touch on a perhaps sore and personal subject for you, but
could you tell me why you weren't at Joey's 50th birthday bash?
D
-
Debby Hairy and I aren't on speaking terms. I didn't want to go, and I heard
from someone that she didn't want me there. I just thought it was best to stay
away from that whole thing.
I
- Define punk as it is today.
D
- There are your well-dressed punks, and your poorly dressed punks.
I
- Are there any other bands out there that you'd like to be in?
D
- No.
I - Why?
D
- Kiss.
I
- Ok. Do you still plan on moving to Hawaii?
D - Yea, I would like to learn Hawaiian guitar, and play at resorts.
I
- That’s great! What kinds of guns do you have?
D
- I only have a Tazer.
I
- What's one very important thing that you've learned from your ventures with
The Ramones that you will always carry with you and never forget or leave behind
you?
D
- They were really cool.
I
- How long have you been married?
D
- o;iherhi;ri;her
I
- Ok ok I’ll stop with the stupid questions I’m copying off of this Ramones
site. Umm what’s the weather like right now?
D
- It’s kind of cold, but only kind of.
I
- What songs do you most enjoy performing live?
D
- New ones.
I
- That’s great. What is it like to go from being a Ramone, which is a bit more
high profile, to jamming with smaller bands?
D
- The worst.
I
- I'm just teasing you. So who would you consider to be the Squareheads rival
band?
D - Die Hard.
I
- Who’s Die Hard?
D
- It’s a movie
I
- I know that but does it have to do with rival bands?
D
- I don't have a rival band.
I
- Fine then. Are
you tired of being interviewed?
D
- A little. Hahaha
I
- Yeah I’m running out of questions. So any last comments or got any amazing
gossip or something?
D - Anthony would prefer you knock before trying to sleep in his room in the early morning.
I - ok so that's the end of the interview.
