................
Feb 3. (Playlouder news) The Darkness finished their first tour down under on Sunday, as the Big Day Out festival came to a close. The tour was a resounding success for the chaps, who left the big hot desert country with 'Permission To Land' trotting its way ever upwards, chartwise, and crowds of Aussies bomping away in joyous exalt to recent single down there 'Growing On Me' - despite the band’s early day slot. Justin even got all squiffy eyed on the last show, launching into a speech in which he said he was honoured and privileged to be playing in Australia with a line up that included The Strokes, Peaches and the Black Eyed Peas. In fact, The Darkness put to rest long-simmering beefs with The Strokes and Peas, who had kept our lads off the top spot for ages.
................
Jan29th. The Black Eyed Peas are adding The Darkness to their wish list of collaborators for their fourth album 'Monkey Business' - due out in November 2004. Justin joined the BEP during their song "Retarded" at Australia's Big Day Out festival. The two bands have become friends after coinciding in many festivals and award shows, although, according to Will I am, there was a bit of weirdness between the two groups at the beginning. "Our songs were at radio at the same time and we kept them out of the Number One spot for about seven weeks. They are from the UK. It felt kind of weird. We didn't gel at first but now I think those dudes are really cool."

Jan 22nd. The Darkness are "Down Under" and will be in for a big week on next week's ARIA chart. Their album 'Permission To Land' has lodged itself at No. 1 in HMV stores according to the midweek chart. 'Permission To Land' debuted at No. 44 on the ARIA chart earlier this week but the impact of the band arriving in the country for Big Day Out has started a buying frenzy. The Darkness filmed the video for their next single "Love is only a feeling" in the Blue Mountains this week and will head to a studio to record B-sides when they arrive in Melbourne. In other news, The Darkness will be headlining a US tour from March to June. No dates are yet available.

The New York Post is reporting that THE DARKNESS recently refused to do a photo shoot with British music rag Q because the photographer wanted the band to spray 15 naked models with champagne. But guitarist Daniel Hawkins now says it wasn't the degradation of women that was the issue. "They were trying to give us that Moet & Chandon crap, but we don't pour anything less than Cristal," jokes the axe-man.
................
The most important UK music awards of the year, The Brits, have been launched in a blaze of glory with rock's Darkness up against the punky pop trio Busted. BRIT stands for British Record Industry Trust and all the proceeds from the BRIT Awards go to the BRIT Trust. The Trust helps to fund, amongst other things, the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. The Darkness fresh from their growing success in the US have been nominated for four awards, with Dido, Daniel Bedingfield and Busted with three nominations. A cross section of the UK's finest are represented as well as key international artists in the Best International Male, Female, Group Album & Breakthrough Categories.
