SPIKE n band - Witchwood Ashton Under Lyne - 7th May

Fantastik… Spike purring his solo songs, drinking cidar, band great, 2 good support bands Audiogene & Stone Sole River, rock n roll…. They looked like they enjoyed it & I definitely did, small but appreciative crowd in a great little venue that is the Witchwood. Didn’t catch many of the ‘solo’ titles I was too busy swaying along to the rhythms, add a couple of Quirboys classics & I was rockin, highlight was ‘Mayfair’…. I had just reached the bar, when I heard Spike telling the audience that he was goerna play a 'not often' played song. Sod the drinks, I was back at the front, singing ‘whats the matter with ya woman…’ & dancing along to mayfair in a shot…. Agh - can’t wait to see the Qboys in Spain

TURBONEGRO - Manchester Uni - 9th May

Turbonegro - Camptastik… If you are an open minded individual, get out & see this band. Outrageously 'made up' they are a wonderful rock n roll experience. Musically talented, some of the songs verging on punk territory, others reminded me of early A Cooper, most are an anthemik wall of of guitar driven noise. Songs from the cracking new CD Scandinavian Leather, mixed in with older songs, & finishing with ‘erection’.Vox H. V. Helvete has the nearly sell out crowd chanting I got erection, what a sight that was…! Earlier we had Turbonegro money & a pillow thrown into the crowd, amazing what a mess that makes!!! Helvete is a great showman introducing most songs with a short witty story & covering himself in (fake?) blood. Earlier Division of Laura Lee got a mixed reception with their take on punk.
