I took a day off work to catch up on the barn construction.

I should have went to work. I successfully dropped a beam on my head, broke my glasses, let the goats out and added enough quarters to the swear jar to take the family out to dinner. I did manage to get it framed in and ready for the siding and roof. I started the day with a trip to the lumber store.

I need to get the roof and walls on the chicken coop side as soon as possible. I have been free ranging my chickens but a fox has decimated my flock and I need to get the girls a safe place to spend the day. I had thought of buying trusses but since it is such a small barn and I'm such a cheap person I decided to go much simpler. I used 2X4 joist hangers and 10' 2X4's. I screwed up on the east wall and it was shorter than I wanted so I cobbled up a few more 2X4's and with the help of the same joist hangers I raised the wall to the same heights as the west wall. This gives me a height of 6' at the walls. I'm 6'2" so this should keep me from banging my head every time I go into the barn.
