Kiriya Shadowthorne--A Corruption Among Us

Little is known about the first few years of Kiriya's life. She was born in the small elven village called Riverwood by the humans that settled in the area. The Elders of Riverwood take in ever hundred and first child to rear as their own. Kiriya was this lucky girl. The Elders did not like the idea of having a female, but they allowed her to stay with them for the sake of tradition. She studied under them as any pupil would for about twenty standard years. The night of her naming ceremony, the village was set on fire. As tradition demanded, the Elders cast her out of the village under the justification that she was an ill omen that would plague the village. There was another reason for this, but Kiriya has no memory of the time during the ceremony or the countless years that followed. She "awoke" one morning in a forest clearing. She had no idea where she was and no memories since the afternoon before what was to have been her naming ceremony. She had changed though. She was older, her body was more mature.

The gap in her memory disturbed her greatly, but she had no way to fill in the missing amount of time. She wandered aimlessly for an undetermined amount of time after that, doing anything to fill the hole. Kiriya eventually ended up in a village located on a river. The place was comfortable to her. It reminded her of the place where she had grown up, the last place she had any real memories. She lived in the forest surrounding the village until a wood cutter came across her sleeping form one morning. He sat down quietly a respectable distance away from her and watched. When she awoke to find a human so close to her, she was startled. He spoke to her, but she did not understand. Somehow the wood cutter persuaded her to come back to his home on the outskirts of the village. He fed her and offered her a place to sleep. She hesitated at first but eventually gave in to his kindness.

The wood cutter would awaken every morning to find the delicate elf waiting for him in the main room of his home. He spoke to her for a time and then went to work. Things continued this way for several weeks. One morning when the woodcutter spoke to Kiriya, she answered him in his own language. Astonished that she had learned to speak a completely foreign tongue so quickly, he sat there in silence and simply looked at her. She spoke again, and he regained his composure. The wood cutter, whose name was Gim, told her she could stay as long as she needed to. Having no where else to go, she accepted his offer and did the best she could not to be a burden.

Kiriya led a plain, simple life with the wood cutter until the day his son returned from Danex, a large city in the region. He had gone there to become a soldier. He had shown promise and was quickly raised to captain. He had returned to the hamlet to offer his father a home in the city. He walked up to the cottage, planning to surprise his father and the end of the day when the wood cutter returned home. Everything went as planned until he opened the door and found an elf sitting on the floor of the main room looking at a variety of plants she had collected from the surrounding area. She turned around as he opened the door and fixed him with her eyes. He was stunned. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. (Or he ever would see, but this was not known to him at the time.) He did not speak, fearing that any sound would shatter this perfect image. Since he did not say anything, she spoke to him. He still did not utter a sound. Thinking that he did not understand her, she began speaking to him in her native language. The young man shook his head, regaining some of his lost composure. He listened to her speak for a while and then told her in his own language that he did not understand. She smiled at him and switched languages.

They talked for some time. She would say something and he would occasionally nod or shake his head. Things continued this way until Gim came home. He was thrilled to see his son (and greatly amused by the way his son was reacting to the elf.) Gim introduced his son, Tygeil, to Kiriya. She simply smiled at him and nodded. Eventually Gim, Kiriya, and Tygeil all went to Danex. With each passing day, she grew closer and closer to Tygeil. He came to love her. But she could not love him back. She was greatly attracted to another resident of the city. His name was Dellan. He was a much sought treasure by the girls of the city, but Kiriya managed to befriend him. They spent a considerable amount of time together when Dellan was not studying or practicing. When he left Danex city with Malek, she went with them.

Over the summer spent in Maxima, Dellan and Kiriya grew to love one another. She managed to lure him away from his books one night. She taught him something he could not learn from a book...the pleasures a woman's body can offer. Being Dellan, he was entranced for about a week before returning to his studies. Kiriya gave birth to Dellan's son, Brian, some time later. Kiriya didn't really want the child, but Dellan loved him. Shortly after Brian's birth, Kiriya disappeared. Dellan felt that she had abandoned him and Brian.

Kiriya knew nothing of this. She had been transported to a strange realm. She did not know at the time, but this happened to all Moon Elves. She did anything she could to survive in her strange new surroundings. Eventually, she came upon a 'man' called Demogorrgon. He wanted her to add to his collection. Not knowing what was going on, she agreed to serve him. He transformed her into a daemoness. She was his and served him for an undetermined amount of time. After his death, she moved on. Still in the form of a daemoness, and still plagued by the past she had rediscovered some time during her servitude. While traveling, she came across Galahdan, the lord of the Andain. He recognized her for what she was and taught her how to utilize the powers she had been cursed with.

She shifted her form to that of the Moon Elf she had been seemingly so long ago. Her hair was the black that is only found during starless nights, but it was flecked with what appeared to be water at first glance. Her eyes were dominantly silver with only a slight hint of green. Her skin was the pale colour of the moon. In this form she continued to go where ever the stars might take her.
