§Mikaya§

A single sevenday had passed since the last Threadfall and quite a bit had happened since then. Mikaya, a Hold girl of fifteen turns, had been busy with her chores and had not gotten a chance to write in her journal so now seven and a half pages were empty. The night before a thief had tried to break in but had been stopped, attacked, and killed by the Hold's resident watch-wher. Unfortunately, for both Mikaya and the watch-wher, the thief had had a dagger and had managed to get a few attacks in before the watch-wher had killed him.
Now the creature's pained thoughts plagued Mikaya greatly, and the girl couldn't bear to think of her friend in pain--she hadn't adopted or impressed it, but she spoke to it and had befriended it...nor did she want the wounds to get infected as infection could cause death for such a creature as a watch-wher. Slowly Mikaya made her way to the watch-wher's lair; with her she carried numbweed, disinfectant, a cloth for cleaning wounds, and cloth bandages she had persuaded the Healer to give her.
Dropping to her hands and knees the girl crawled into the reeking lair of the watch-wher. Jieni, the little golden flit Mikaya had Impressed at Sapphire Weyr remained outside, unable to stand the stench. Mikaya herself was having trouble, so much that she had to pull the collar of her greyish colored tunic up over her nose.
Pausing for a few minutes as she waited for her eyes to adjust to the darkness of the watch-wher's lair Mikaya had enough time to sense a dragon approaching. There was a blue...Searchdragon...! He was a Searchdragon! Heading to Mikaya's home Hold! Mikaya felt the elation well up within her and almost crawled right back out of the watch-wher lair to run to greet them. But no...she couldn't do that yet...Couldn't leave her friend's wounds to get infected.
Looking about in the darkness Mikaya's storm grey eyes made out the watch-wher and after focusing for a moment...yes...she could see the wounds as well. Thinking soft, calming thoughts to the watch-wher she crawled up to it and set down her healing supplies. The watch-wher lifted its head and rose to its feet, making its way up to her clearly happy to see his friend. "Hello lovely," Mikaya greeted the watch-wher as she took its head in her hands and stroke the top of its head. After a bit she released it. "Now, stay still," she told the creature. "This may sting."
Soaking the cloth with disinfectant Mikaya began to slowly and gently clean the watch-wher's wounds. The watch-wher flinched a bit in pain but remained as still as it could, lolled by it's friends soothing thoughts. Finishing with the disinfectant Mikaya sighed and dropped the cloth...she'd might as well keep it for later use, the Healer wouldn't want it back after this. Now the numbweed, Mikaya thought as she swiped some of the stuff into her hand and began to slather it onto the wounds.
She could feel the watch-wher's mind relax as the numbweed took effect, soothing the pain. "And last of all, the bandages," Mikaya thought out loud, slightly enjoying the sound of her voice as she dressed the watch-wher's wounds carefully making sure not to make them too tight or too loose. She found that she had gotten good at it thanks to the Healer's help.
"And now I must go," Mikaya told the watch-wher as she gathered up her things and crawled back out. She could sense that the creature was thankful to her. As Mikaya stood up outside, blinking in the light, Jieni dove out of the sky and scolded Mikaya.
"Oh hush you!" Mikaya said with a laugh. "You could have come but you didn't! 'Tis your own fault!" Mikaya quickly made her way back to the Hold, hoping to get in a bath before she looked for the bluerider. She could see the blue dragon already, he was perched on the roof carefully watching everything. Mikaya sent him a hastful greeting as she made her way to the door--and found it block by the bluerider.
"He-hello.." Mikaya stuttered, a bit nervous that she had run into the dragonrider still smelling like a watch-wher's lair. Instictively her hand went to her forehead to rub the scar above her right eyebrow. However, the dragonrider didn't seem to pay either fact any mind.
"Hello, I am a searchrider of Dawn Sisters Weyr and he," the dragonrider paused to motion to her blue dragon. "Is my lifemate. Who might you be?" "M-mikaya..." Mikaya said nervously, still fingering the scar. The bluerider seemed to notice this time. "What happened there?" the bluerider asked, indicating the scar on the girl's head. "Oh..uh..." Mikaya started then paused to think about it. "...got a little close to a wild firelizard queen's nest when I was ten turns old... She made sure I'd remember to never do that again!"
The bluerider laughed slightly at the girl's comment and Mikaya eased up a bit, smiling. "So, Mikaya... how do you feel about becoming a candidate for a dragon? A Gold has just clutched and we are in need of candidates for the dragonets..." Mikaya almost fainted out of sheer excitement.
"I-I'd love to!" she declared, jumping with joy. "My father was a brownrider...long...long ago! It's been my dream since he died to carry on in his footsteps and become a dragonrider! Thank you! Thank you so much!" Mikaya embraced the dragonrider, crying tears of joy. She now had a chance to impress a dragon at Moon Shadow Weyr!
