Chapter 2: Lavos Revealed part 2, An Erie Experiance
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, in 1000 AD...

"Going to look for Schala?" Marle asked to in an out-of-character
seriousness. Magus just stared at her for a moment, then stepped into
a Gate to god knows where. He had helped Crono and his friends long
enough. He was begining to enjoy their company so he'd decided it
was time to leave and continue his search for Schala. He didn't want
to become attached to them. In times of despair, he didn't want to
burden himself by oweing it to them to save their lives. But at the
moment he stepped into that Gate, fate changed it's coarse forever.

The entity known as Magus was no more. His exsistance was unstable
and vunerable to fluxtuations in the space-time continua and so he slipped
off the threads of fate. Janus, his child self, was free to begin a
new coarse in life. A new destiny. A life full of new oppritunities.
And quite possibly, a better life than the one Magus suffered through.

Back in Tarn and Koro's time...

"Here it is Genji!" Tarn exclaimed with the utmost pride in his finding.

"Ahh...hmm...ohh...interesting..." Gengi carefully searched over the
drawing. "If I had better lighting in here I'd be able to see better."
The cave was very dim. Stalagtites hung from the celing dripping water
into puddles below that, when sunlight did hit, gleamed a beautiful,
wavy blue pattern against the wall of the cave.

"Well," Genji said with a momentary pause, "First of all this 'Red
Clay' appears to be some variation of a stone only found in acient times
in extreme areas of the planet. I belive they called it Heavenstone..."
Genji then paused for another few seconds, "No. No wait. It's called
something like Heavenstone. Sleepstone? No that doesn't sound right.
Cloudstone! Yeah! No. Not That either..."

A voice came from outside the cave that startled Genji. He had been
so concentrated on thinking that he didn't see the figure approaching.
"I belive it's called Dreamstone, Genji"

"Koro!!!" Genji was furious, "I expressedly restricted Koro from
leaving the village and here you come anyway! Such a disobediant youth!"
Now something we must all understand about Genji is that he is normally
very kind and caring. Lately though he's been on edge about Koro sneaking
out of the village.

"Aww, come on Genji. Why can Tarn go where he pleases and I'm stuck
at the village? It's not fair!" Koro whined in an annoying voice that
he's been using since he was five to get his way.

"First of all," Genji growled, "It seems you are the one who goes
where he pleases! And second of all Tarn is 19 and you are only 15!
Once you are 16 you may go as you please without upsetting anyone! But,
of coarse, you'll do that now and there's no stopping you...all I can
do is warn you that without the sword from your coming of age ceremony,
you're bound to be injured roaming the world without proper protection."

"Genji...why are you so damn worried about me?" Koro asked and when
he did Genji suddenly stopped everything and the anger left his face.
"And why have you been so angry with me lately about leavin' the village?"

A sudden look of extreme greif came over Genji as if someone had died...

"Koro..." Genji said, smiling at the boy, "Now is not the time for
this. Please," Genji begged, "Just this once, listen to me...really
listen to me. Go, back, to, the village...please."

Koro also suddenly had a change of expression. He looked shameful
and great remorse for coming to this cave against Genji's wishes. The
look that came over him was as if he had killed the one Genji was
greveing over. An intense kind of expression that made Genji want to
burst out in tears. But he was strong and brushed off his sadened expression
and waited for an answer with his head still looking at the ground a little,
completly avoiding eye contact with Koro...there was no answer...Genji
looked up and Koro was gone.

"Sorry to ask at a time like this Genji but..."

"A time like this? Oh, uhh, nothing's wrong. Everything's dandy." Genji
said with a fake happiness.

"Oh. Well okay but..."

"Oh but nothing Tarn, lets get on with the investigation."

For what seemed like an eternity (but was actually 4 minutes) Genji and
Tarn studied the drawings without saying a word leaving an erie silence
inside the cave. The only sounds that could be heard was the dripping of
the water, splashing on the ground below and echoing to make it sound many
times bigger.

"So...what's with this, Dreamstone?" Tarn asked. The erie feeling
was too much so he took it upon himself to break the silence.

"Huh?" Genji asked as if his train of though had been broken and he
had been thrust back into reality

"You know, the Dreamstone. What is it?" Tarn repeated.

"Oh" Genji said, obviuosly still a little dazed, "Yes of coarse, the
Dreamstone. It used to be used as a currency, back in acient times, but it
became used up so much that it was hard to fand anymore thus making it a
prized stone. Usually only village cheifs would have Dreamstone. Usually
made into a pendant to represent the shape of a heart. The symbol of
courage and yet, a reminder of care."

"So if it's so prized why'd someone just rub it off onto the wall
like this?" Tarn asked.

"It is said that after a great disaster, all the dreamstone turned to
a hard red clay...all except for one pendant. One unlike the others, not
in the traditional heart shape. The shape is unknown but it is certian
that it's not a heart, and that that it's shape is significant in one
way or another."

"Oh," Tarn said, as if he understood any of this, "Well then what
happened to this Sleepstone?"

"It's Dreamstone and no one knows. Dreamstone is a very sturdy substance.
If found today it would still be in mint condition. Perfect in every aspect
that it originally was." Genji said, showing he had a vast knowledge of either
ancient civilizations or the Dreamstone.

"So why can't anyone find it? There's not that much land to explore."
Tarn asked, now somewhat interested.

"That's just it. We live in a time with very little land but back in
prehistoric times, there was a lot more land," Genji thought to himself
for a few seconds, "For all we know the pendant could be at the bottom
of the ocean, under a chunk of fallen land. Or it could be burried under
any new land that was formed anywhere from way back then to now."

"Wow. Sounds as if no one will find it. Oh well I'm sure it's not
important," Tarn stopped to think about what he said while Genji gave
him a questioning look, "Umm...at least to us, heh heh heh."

Genji just shook his head and tried his best to ignore Tarn's ignorance
on the subject. "Well I guess it's about time to try and see if I understand
what these mean. Hmm..." Genji paused for quite awhile. Almost a half an hour
looking at the pictures, in order, over and over and over again. "Aha. I see.
It appears to be depicting an event that happened gradualy over time," He
pointed to the first picture, "You see here, the constelation of the Light is
over on the right side of the drawing," Genji then pointed to the second,
"And here it is gone. And the constelation of the Skull is present. Those
constelations appear at opposite times of the year. So there was about a
half-year time between the fireball object being in the sky and it's
appearent crash into our world. Also notice the symbols under the spiky-
creature. It seems to be an early form of writing. I'll have to find someone
to anyalize this. In short the picture shows this. A huge fireball appears
in the summer sky. Later, in winter, the fireball crashes down and turns
out to be some huge monster of sorts, covered in spikes. The monster burrows
down into the ground and the people of the worldpray to it as they would a
god. The two figures that stand out are a cheif and a medicine man. The cheif
appears to have a rather female composure so my guess would be that the
cheif is a woman. Strange, considering civilization's limits back when
dreamstone exsisted. This will probably prove to be quite a leap in our
knowledge of our planet's history...Now that I look at it this may not be a
medicine man at all. He appears to look, and dress, quite different from anyone
that lived back then. And his is the only hair of anyone in this drawing
that is filled in. With the red Dreamstone-clay. Obviously his hair is
an orangeish-red color. Quite uncommon back then. Mostly people had dark hair.
Black, or brown. But back then people with unusal traits, such as this man's
orange hair, were considered better than others. That's why he was standing
with the cheif. Probably just a war general or something like that. I'm sure
it's nothing."

"I don't know. To me it seems significant. Who else are we gonna have
analyze this?" Tarn asked. This was infact one of many questions he had asked
today. He was never very inquisitive and rarely asked anything unless it was
neccessary to know like, who found what treasure, who went where while exploring
and what's for dinner.

"No...doesn't seem to have any significance to me." Genji said, once more.

"If you say so...still seems kinda fishy to me...and who didja say will
also analyze this?"

"I didn't say anyone would." Genji said, looking over at Tarn. Tarn just
looked back for a minute slightly confused.

"Genji what do you...?" Tarn started.

"Nevermind Tarn. I'll look for someone but if no one is fit to examine this
then no one will," Genji interupted, "Okay?"

Tarn just nodded. "But what about...?"

"Koro?" Genji interupted again, "Yes I'll explain it to him too. Hopefully
he's kept his mouth shut. We wouldn't want the village in an uproar over
something we barely understand."

"Koro, keep his mouth shut? Ha! I'm sure he's told everyone by now..."
Tarn announced, mocking Koro.

"You two should try and be friends you know, Tarn." Genji said as if trying
to convince a five year to be nice to his sister. Tarn said nothing. He just
stood there with a skeptical look on his face.

"Fine...I'll be friends with him. As soon as he grovels at my feet!
Ah ha ha!" Tarn said, obviously thinking he was funny.

"Well then. If you have nothing more to point out, I guess we'd better
get back to Dendoro." Genji said, hoping to go back to the village and a
nice hot bowl of Turtle Soup. So the two stepped out of the cave and began
their walk home. The outside of the cave was on a small cliff. There was
green grass all around and lush foliage such as shrubs, ferns, and pine
trees. There were small pink flowers around the entrance too. The actual
cave entrance was once covered in vines. Tarn only found the entrance when
he tripped over one of the vines, ripping it down and revealing th entrance
to the cave. The entrance itself was no more that four feet high and three feet
across. A relativly small entrance considering the huge caves in the
surrounding mountains. A small stream ran near the entrance and goldfish
could be seen scurrying around frequently through it's crystal clear waters.
It was a nice place for beginners to learn to fish. Overall the entrance was
a beautiful place to be.

Wiether you were on a picnic or spying on your older brother and Genji,
it was a nice place to be.
