Step 3: Sending Your First Turn
Technically, you can begin playing the game before you recieve your first turn. It's sort of a blind leap into the battle field, but if you need to feel like you have some control, the option is here for you. What you do on your first turn depends on your playing style. Do you want to begin in a dive with a lot of speed? Or, would you rather begin climbing, but with a loss of speed?
First of all, start a new e-Mail message. You control your plane using the FC (stands for "Flight Controls") command. The "FC" goes in the subject line, and is followed by a colon, then your Pilot Name, then another colon, and finally your password. For example, if my pilot name was "Capt. John Doe" and my password was "dday", then the subject line of my FC message would say "FC:Capt. John Doe:dday" (without the quotes, of course).
All the commands that you will use to fly your aircraft are put within the body of the FC message. The following three commands are the most common used in e-Warbirds, you can't fly without them.
|
- Heading:
- Your desired heading can be any number between 0 and 359 degrees. (If the number you put exceeds 359 degrees, the server will translate it to a number 0 - 359.) The degree value 0 corresponds to north, 90 to east, 180 to south, and 270 for west. The heading command goes in the body of an FC e-mail. To change your heading write "set heading" then a colon, followed by the degree of the direction you want to head.
For example, if I wanted to set a course a little east of due north, I would write: "set heading:15" in the body of the FC message. (Again, without quotes)
- Altitude:
- Using the set altitude command, you can send your plane to the exact altitude that you want to fly at. If you set an altitude above your current altitude, the plane will lose some speed as it climbs. If you set an altitude below your current altitude, your plane will pick up speed in the dive. To change your altitude, write "set altitude" followed by a colon, then the desired altitude in the body of the FC message.
For example, if I wanted to dive to 6000 feet, I would write: "set altitude:6000"
- Throttle:
- The throttle command changes your speed to x% of your maximum speed, where x is whatever number you input. Changes in throttle will not immediately affect your speed, ie if you want to go 3/4 of your top speed and you set your throttle for 75%, the next turn you will find that you are not yet going 3/4 of your maximum speed. To change your throttle, just write "throttle" followed by a colon, followed by a number 0-100 to represent the percentage of maximum speed.
For example, to bring my throttle to 75% of my plane's maximum speed, I would write "throttle:75" in the body of my FC message.

Example
The following is an example of how your first FC message might look.
