FFX SUMMONS

Aeons

By: FinalKnight

All you FF fans know what summons are; the monsters called upon to help you in battle. They have been in every FF game to date. We always have the 'traditional' summon monsters such as Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, Odin, and Carbuncle; who are in all the FF games, but often times, get introduced to new ones too, like Quezactle and Diablos from Final Fantasy VIII. Though they are different, the concept has always been the same: after a certain amount of time for calling them, they perform their special technique that either deals great damage to the enemy, or heals a generous amount of HP, MP, etc. to your party members. But that will all change in Final Fantasy X.

This time around, the summoned monsters (now called Aeons) will have a much longer participation in battle. Instead of just executing their attack and disappearing there after, they take the place of the character summoning them in battle, mainly Yuna, and stay there until the end of the battle or until their HP goes down to 0. This allows you to control them like any other character; they have attack, magic, and item options, including the Overdrive attack. The Overdrive attack (which is the Limitbreak-like attack in FFX) is of course, their special technique that they have used numerous times in the past FFs. So, as you can see, Square has taken Summoning to the next level, possibly to the highest, though I doubt that.

In FFX you will be able to acquire the Aeons by traveling the world of Spira and finding the Aeon temples which you can retrieve the monsters from. The summon roster is (from what I've heard of so far): Shiva, Bahamut, Valefor(new), Anima (new), Ifrit, possibly Odin, and maybe others I haven't heard of as of yet, but I'll update this page once I hear of new monsters. If you would like to know what some of the new Aeons look like, head on over to the FFX Screenshots section! ;) UPDATE: Here is the official list of all the aeons in the game (inluding secret ones): Valefor, Ifrit, Shiva, Bahamut, Ixion, Yojimbo, Anima, and the Magus Sisters.
