Inroduction

This is an introduction to the game Final Fantasy 1. You start the game on a screen where you have to choose new game. From there you are taken to a screen where you have to choose a party. Fighter, thief, black belt, red mage is the default party, though I don't recommend it. Refer to my Characters page for more information on choosing a party.
After choosing your party and naming your characters you will begin the actual game. Above you is the town of Coneria. Before heading there lets check out some of the menus within the game itself, these are vital in playing the game.
Lets start by pressing the select button. By doing this, you bring up a screen that allows you to switch the order of your characters. The higher a character is the more damage they will receive from enemies. There is no changing of rows in FF1. This doesn't appear until later Final Fantasy games.
Next lets try the menu screen, go here by pressing start. Notice the four orbs in the upper left corner. They will play a major role in the game as the whole point of the game is to revive them. Also notice the five choosable options on the bottom left. Lets start with items. This is where you go to use all of the items that you'll receive in the game. For a list go to the items page.
Next is the magic menu. Only certain characters can use certain magic. Progressively stronger magic will be sold in towns that will be for sale. Your magic compatible characters will gain the power to use higher and higher levels of magic, and more and more amounts of magic per level as they gain levels. You can restore your magic supply at an inn. If your unsure which characters can use what magic, check out the characters page.
Next is the weapons screen. Each character can equip only one weapon which will increase their attack power. (Except the master.) The other empty spaces are to store extra weapons that you may want to keep or sell. To see what weapons characters can equip, go to the weapons page.
The armor screen is where you can equip all your armor to increase your defense. You can equip up to 4 pieces of armor per character. (Body armor, Head Armor, Hand/Arm Armor, and a Shield). Once again, only certain characters can equip certain armor, check out the armor page.
Finally, there is the status screen. From here you can see all your status. The stats on the left all go up when you go up levels and improve your skills. The ones on the left increase when you equip weapons and armor to improve your stats. You can also see the amount of experience you have and the amount you need to get to the next level.

Now that you know the game basics, let's head north into the town of Coneria. There, you will be able to buy your first equipment, magic, and items.
