Before heading to the Temple of Fiends, it's important to build up some levels, and some money to buy that stuff in Coneria that you just couldn't afford. Walk around Coneria until you get into a battle against some Imps. The imps are fairly easy to defeat and are good for leveling up early. I recommend getting to level 2 at the very least, getting to level 3 helps even more. | |
Battles are done on a turn based system. Each character and each enemy has one turn or attack at a time. Each of your characters can either attack with their weapon, use magic, use an item or run. A problem with the battles are that when 2 characters attack the same enemy and the 1st one kills him, the 2nd will be ineffective. For example, if your fighter attacks an imp and kills it, and your B.B. was to attack the same enemy, the B.B. would be ineffective instead of hitting another enemy. |
Once you're in level 2/3 it's time to head to the Temple of Fiends. The Temple is located directly northwest of Coneria. It's a straight path so you don't have to worry about getting lost. |

Once you're in, notice that the whole place is shaped like a big box with 4 treasure rooms in the corner and Garland in the middle. Go get the treasure before you go after Garland. In the bottom left hand corner room, you'll find a CAP and in the upper left hand corner room, you'll find both a CABIN and a HEAL. |
Now check out the two treasure rooms on the right hand side. You'll notice that these are also both locked by the mystic key. Again, note this as it will also come into play later. Now that the treasure is taken care of, it's time to head after Garland. |
Garland is very easy. His attack is weak for a boss and he doesn't have a lot of HP. Use black magic LIT and FIRE and have your fighters fight, this should be plenty to defeat Garland. You'll gain some much needed EXP and G from the fight. Go to the Bosses section for more info on Garland. |
After defeating Garland, Princess Sara will automatically teleport you back to the castle. Here, the king thanks you and tells you he built you a bridge for you. The Princess will also give you a LUTE, an item that comes in handy much later in the game. After this, leave the castle. |
If you remember, a man back in Coneria mentioned that he lives in Pravoka, a town to the east, this is your next stop. To get there you'll have to cross the bridge that the King has constructed for you. You might want to buy a HEAL or two and maybe a TENT because the journey is quite a long one. |
Make sure you're prepared and then step across the bridge. Upon stepping onto the bridge a screen comes up that roles the credits. It also plays the Prologue music, one of the greatest Final Fantasy songs, it has been used in every single Final Fantasy game since. |
-Now that you've been able to save Princess Sara, it's time to concentrate on the orbs. To do so you'll need to get a ship. Some pirates have one in Pravoka, but you'll have to take it from them. |
