Part 9- Fiend of Earth

Titan's Tunnel

Recommended Level: 13, Treasure: 450G, 620G, Great Axe, Silver Helmet

Enemies:
Name
HP
EXP
Gold
Weakness
-Arachnid 64 141 50 N/A
-Green Ogre 132 282 300 N/A
-Ogre 100 195 195 N/A
-Grey Wolf 72 93 22 N/A
-Tiger 132 438 108 N/A

At Titan's Tunnel, give the giant the RUBY and he'll let you pass through the tunnel. There's not much to see or do here, head down to the room at the bottom to pick up some treasure, you'll find a great axe, 620G, 450G, and a nice silver helmet. After that exit out to the world map.
From Titan's Tunnel, take the path down to another cave, this is where you'll find Sarda. Within Sarda's home you won't have to worry about battles or treasure, there's just Sarda.
Sarda gives you a rod that will allow you to get past that plate blocking you in the earth cave. He also says that deep within you'll find the cause of the earth's rot. So take this and head to the earth cave. You'll probably want to make a quick trip to Melmond and save and stay at the inn before you leave.
You'll have to make your way all the way back to the plate that was blocking your way. Once you're there go to your menu screen and use the rod, it'll shatter the plate into pieces. Head down the stairs to the next floor.

Earth Cave Revisited

Recommended Level: 15, Treasure: 5450G, 1520G, Wooden Staff, 3400G, 1455G, Silver Shield, 1250G, CABIN

This next floor is very long and hard. There are 2 treasure rooms, both worth visiting. One in the northeast corner and one in the southwest. The stairs to the final floor are in the northwest corner if you want to go straight there. Watch yourself, many of the enemies on the next two floors are very difficult. One of which are the wizards that you fought in Marsh Cave.
Another annoying battle is against coctrices. These guys can petrify your characters. This may not seem like a big deal but if all your characters are petrified you die. You might want to run if you get into any trouble with them or especially if you're low on SOFTs which cure petrification.
Now let's talk about the treasure on this floor. The room in the northeast corner has 5 treaure chests containing a wooden staff (drop this it sells for an allmighty 2G), 1520G, 5450G, 3400G, and 1455G. Beware, these chests are guarded by a WzOgre, GrOgre, and 2 hyena battle. Although this fight isn't that much harder than any other fight on this floor, having to fight it over and over starts to wear on you.
In the other treasure room in the southwest corner you'll find 3 treasure chests containing a CABIN, 1250G, and a silver shield (nice for fighter). These chests are also guarded so be prepared to fight.
Now it's time to head to the final floor, the stairs are in the northwest corner of this floor. Once on the final floor, notice that there is only one room and no treasure at all. Head to that room, up from the stairs to get to this floor, then make a left and head down.
Upon entering this room you'll notice that there is a big orb. This is where you'll fight the final boss of the cave. Restore yourself as much as you possibly can before fighting him. You won't have to worry about exiting the cave.
When your ready approach the orb. It's Lich the Fiend of the earth. Get ready for your first major boss battle of the game.
Lich is a fairly strong foe, but as long your in at least level 15 or so you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Lich is undead so use fire and harm against him. He does have a few moves that will hit all of your party members that can be deadly. Check out my Bosses page for more info on Lich.
To complete the job step on the holy looking altar in front of you. This lights the orb!!! Now that you're done you can just step up one square and you'll teleport straight out of the cave. Much easier than retracking up 5 floors isn't it.
Hit start, notice that the first orb is lit, congratulations only 3 more to go. So where do you go next? Well, let's start by heading back to Melmond.
The people of Melmond thank you when you talk to them. Make sure that you have everything you need from Melmond before you leave (except WARP). Then go head and exit and go on your ship, it's time to head for Crescent Lake.

-Now that you have the first orb lit there are 2 different paths that you can take. Some people prefer to go straight to the volcano and go after the fire crystal. While others prefer to head to Crescent Lake and get the airship and class change first. The choice is up to you, I prefer to go to Crescent Lake first so that's the way my walkthrough will go as well.
