OVERVIEW: Get the pendant from the Dist Cave and use it to talk to the Hiryuu. He tells you that he's dying from the poison and wants you to place an egg of his in the Spring of Life. Place this egg deep within the cave to help the Hiryuu race live on.
I. The Pendant
-Now head to this cave north of Dist Castle. You'll have to search through here for something to help you talk to that Hiryuu. |

-Head into Dist Cave. The enemies here are quite difficult. The gigas from the warship can now be fought in random battles rather than guarding treasure. To make matters worse you can fight 2 of them in one fight. As far as the cave goes, start by heading east at the beginning and getting this treasure with 30 Gil. There are 3 stairways on this floor, but for now only worry about the one in the northeast. |
-Down these stairs you'll find the corpse of a dragoon. But he has some very valuable hardware on him... a pendant. With this pendant you can now speak with the hiryuu. Don't worry about the rest of the cave for now, just use exit and head back to Dist Castle.
| |
-Back at Dist Castle, the hiryuu isn't doing so well. The poison in him has spread quickly and he's near death. He has a very important favor to ask of you.
-Say hiryuu to him and he'll ask you as his final request to take his egg and to submerge it in the Spring of Life. Not to bad of a request. The spring serves as an incubator for the hiryuu and it is located deep within Dist Cave.
| |
-While you're at it, ask him about the dragoons and he'll tell you about a dragoon named Richard that left to find Ultima. Hmmm... Minh also went to unseal a spell, could it be ultima...? That's all to see for now, head back to Dist Cave. You might want to use the cabin that you picked up in the castle to regain your health. You can also use your ship to make a short trip to Bofsk to get your health back as well. Make sure that you heal though, this time your trip won't be that short.
-Once inside, head to the other stairways. There's one in the southwest of this floor and another in the southeast (one to each side of where I'm standing). You have a big choice to make. The southwest path is fairly long and leads to a couple of treasures (knight armor, flame bow, ElderIQ, heart, potion). You do not have to take this path and you probably don't need to either. The southeast path leads to the spring of life. It's up to you, I recommend skipping the treasures especially if you went to Mysidia, but I'll cover it for those who want to. If not skip here.
| |
II. Side Trip for Treasure
-This path is very linear and fairly long. On this floor simply pick up the potion and take the stairs to basement 2.
-I'll let you figure this one out...
| |
-Basement 3 is also linear, just follow the path to the stairs.
-Basement 4 is another linear floor but this one has the treasure. (It's about time.) The three at the top contain an ElderIQ, a heart, and a flame bow. The flame bow isn't as good as the ice bow so if you went to Mysidia keep the ice bow, otherwise equip the flame bow.
| |
-The bottom treasure contains some knight armor but is guarded by 3 adamantis. Use ice against them for an easy victory. Again, if you went to Mysidia you probably have knight armor for all of your characters. If not then equip it, it's the best armor to this point in the game. That's all the treasure, use exit and re-enter the cave.
III. Dist Cave- Basement 1
-Head back into the cave and this time take the southeast stairs instead of the other two sets. It leads to the Spring of Life that you're here to put the egg in.
| |
-Basement 1 is pretty straightforward until you reach this ugly 5-way intersection. Go straight up and get mithril armor in the treasure that you can see from the picture.
-Then head down, the southeast path. Here you'll find a mithril helmet. Note: Your inventory might start to reach its capacity. If this does happen and you're real short on money then go sell all of your excess equipment. If you're not short, then dump some of it. This mithril equipment should be some of the first stuff to go, along with hearts and ElderIQs and such that are pretty pointless.
| |
-Now head to the path that leads straight down from the intersection and leads to these stairs. This is another optional trip, it leads to mithril gauntlets and a mirror (casts Wall16). If you want them head down, if not head to the west path from the intersection.
-Once down, DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE. Once you get to a certain point you will drop down deep into the cave and will have to use exit and track all the way back to this point.
| |
-Instead head north and get this treasure with some mithril gauntlets and then continue on the path to pick up the mirror. Then, go back up the stairs.
-This time take the west path at the 5-way intersection and it'll lead you here. Go down if you'd like a magic cane and go up if you're getting sick of this cave and just want to get to the end head up.
| |
-The magic cane is guarded by 4 G. Souls. This will be the easiest fight you've fought in this game. Not only do they only have 6 HP but they actually cure you! The magic cane is the best cane to this point in the game so if you Maria has canes equiped then give it to her, if not keep it to sell.
-Take the north path now and it'll lead you to these stairs down to basement 2.
| |
IV. Dist Cave- Final Floors
-On this floor make sure that you grab this mithril shield and then head north. Again, DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE. It will drop you down several floors.
-Continue north on the path to these stairs to the third basement. Note: You can cross the small bridge at the north end of this floor, there is no trap on that bridge.
| |
-On this floor you can pick up a DrgnBean that damages all enemies. This is all there is on this floor so head down to basement 4.
-This is the final floor of the cave. Head around until you get to these four doors. I'm standing in front of the correct one. The others simply lead to empty rooms.
| |
-Inside this door is the boss of the cave. As always make sure that you fully heal your HP before talking to it. When your ready start the battle.

-The fact that there are 3 chimeras instead of just one makes this battle much tougher. Their fire magic isn't real strong but having it done 3 times a turn on you can take its toll. Take out one chimera at a time using physical attacks. If you went to Mysidia and got some ice shields then the fight will be significantly easier because the fire spells damage will be reduced. Also, the ogre axe and ice bow will deliver major damage to them.
| |
V. The Spring of Life
-After the battle, walk up to the spring and place the egg inside of it. That's all there is to do, use exit to finally leave the cave.
-Your next stop is back in Altea. But, before heading back make a quick stop at Dist Castle again. You'll find that the final Hiryuu is now dead.
| |
-But, because of the egg that you placed, the Hiryuu race will live on. That's all to do on the island, head back to Altea. If you need help finding Altea use the world map, you'll have to make quite a trip.
