Part 2 - Phin

Contents

I. A Stop at Gatea
II. The Town of Phin
III. Back in Altea

Maps

-Gatea
-Phin

OVERVIEW: You will visit the town of Phin. Phin has been taken over by the Empire and there are soldiers everywhere. You will receive a ring from Scott, Gordon's brother and with it Hilda will give you some valuable information on the warship, mithril, and much more.

-It's time to start to head north to Phin. To get there you have to head north, start by crossing this bridge.
I. A Stop at Gatea

-Continue north and a little east and you'll eventually come to the town of Gatea. Gatea isn't a necessary stop so you can pass by it if you'd like, but you can pick up a piece of leather armor for Maria and you can gain some valuable information.

-This guy lets you know that Phin is just across the lake. It's pretty much dead north but you can't go across the lake. Instead you'll have to go to the west and go around the lake. As far as the shops in Gatea go, the only thing worth buying is a leather armor for Maria, anything else is a waste of money.
-This guy informs you that many of the Empire's minions are wandering around Phin and to be careful, make a note of this and move on.
-This man gives you an interestning piece of information, that there's a bar at the edge of Phin that houses a man that escaped from the Empire.
-This woman again mentions a warship that the Empire seems to be building. Apparantely this warship will be quite powerful. That's all to see in Gatea, exit the town and head north to Phin.
-You'll have to go around this lake to get to Phin. Head west from Gatea first. Make sure you do not head to far west, stay close to the lake. If you sway too far you'll encounter some very difficult enemies that will anniliate you.
II. Phin

-This is the town of Phin, head on in.
-DO NOT TALK TO ANY OF THE PEOPLE. They're the Empire's soldiers and talking to them will thrust you into a battle against one of these soldiers that you cannot beat, so avoid talking to them at all costs.
-Instead, walk up here, right along the trees. Walk to the east and then to the south.
-You'll eventually see this pub, head inside. This is the pub that the man in Gatea was talking about.
-In the pub don't talk to anyone either, the result will be the same. The only person you can talk to is this man, tell him the password and he'll tell you that there's a dying man in the basement and he'll let you through.
-Say the password to the man and he'll introduce himself, he's Scott, Prince of Kashuon, and Gordon's brother.
-Scott isn't doing so good, so bad in fact that he makes a few dying wishes to you. He tells you to tell Gordon to have more pride in himself and to tell Hilda that he loves her. Then he gives you a ring and passes away. Make sure you take the 3 potions in the room and then take the long walk back to Altea.
-When you get on the world map press Select and B at the same time. Doing so will bring up this nifty world map for reference.
III. Back in Altea

-First of all show the ring to Gordon. He will go frantic and wants to know what happened to his brother. Now go and show Hilda the ring.
-Show the ring to Hilda and she'll also wonder what has happened to Scott. You offer to let her keep the ring but she let's you keep it.
-She'll also ask you to help her find the legendary Mithril to help build better equipment for the army. Make sure that you learn the keyword Mithril.
-Recite Mithril to her and she'll tell you that Josef in Salmando knows where Mithril is. So you'll have to head to Salamando, but where is it?
-She also informs you of the Empire's warship. And that many people from Phin were enslaved to help build it. Make sure that you learn the keyword Warship.
-Recite warship to her and she'll tell you of Cid's airship. The warship is apparentely bigger and better than this airship. Make sure that you also learn the keyword Airship.
-So, how in the heck do you get to Salmando? Well, talk to Minh and he will offer his services and his canoe. With the canoe you can cross rivers. This will allow you to get to Salamando.
-Minh is not a bad character by any means. He has tons of HP, MP, and a full arsenal of heavy duty magic. You can use him to do some leveling up to gain some Gil in the area. You will probably want to buy some Fire/Ice/Bolt spells for the team. This will cost a lot of money, but it's worth it. At the very least pick up one of each. Then it's off to find Josef in Salmando.

-Note: As far as magic goes every one of your characters should buy the essential white magic. Cure is the only available spell right now, later life and heal will become available. However, it's a good idea to buy only black magic for Maria and make her a mage. Her bows can hit from the back row so you can keep her back there and raise her magic stats. It's very hard and extremely time consuming to try to get all of your characters to be good magic users.
