OVERVIEW: Meet up with Josef and use his hidden ice sled to get to the Snow Cave. Complete the cave to gain the goddess bell that you've came for. On the way out you are attacked by Borgan, after defeating him a giant bolder comes crashing down and Josef gives his life to save you.

I. The Ice Sled

-Visit Josef once more in Salmando by either flying there by Cid's airship or just walking. Ask him about the Goddess Bell and he'll tell you that it's located up north in the mountains.
-He goes on to say how you need an ice sled to get there and that he hid one in Semite Cave. He decides to join your party in order to show you where it is. Next stop, Semite Cave.
-Josef is a half way decent character. He has no magic and not that great of HP, your HP is probably higher than his is. He attacks with his fists so don't buy him any weapons or armor. He'll do just fine with what he has. He can pack quite a punch with his physical attacks. Especially after his weapon level has gone up a few.
-Head back to the Semite Cave. Go near this blue square on the first floor and then head to the wall to the northeast. Josef will push on the wall and reveal a secret passage into another room.
-In this room pick up the ice sled in the treasure chest on the east side of the room. Use exit and head back to Salmando to heal. You'll want your MP maxed when you head to the Snow Cave.
-After healing head to this point to the west of Salmando, then head north. You'll soon see the entrance to the icy area where you'll have to use the ice sled.
-This is the way to the Snow Cave simply head east onto the ice. The ice sled is pretty funky looking but it gets the job done. The path to the cave is pretty straightforward. Simply head east, towards the end the path starts to widen. Just stay towards the middle, you won't have any problems.
-This is the mighty Snow Cave. It's about as long as the Semite Cave was, maybe a little longer. The enemies still are pretty easy. The treasure is much better here than it was in the Semite Cave. Also many enemies drop items such as battle axes that sell for quite a bit. So you can earn quite a few bucks throughout the cave.

II. Snow Cave- Floor 1

-Make sure that you save your MP for the end of the cave, it'll help a lot. Also, the exit spell doesn't work so you can't immediately exit the cave. There is a shorcut to get out so don't worry, you don't have to track back up through the entire cave again. The first floor is fairly simple, head up the stairs.
-At the first intersection head northwest to reach this treasure with 100 gil, then head south once again.
-Continue south until the path splits once more. Take the path on the right and it'll lead you to this treasure with 150 Gil.
-You'll eventually come to this point. Ignore the door for now, (you can't go through it anyways) it'll come into play later. Head down the stairs to the next floor.
III. Snow Cave- Basement 1

-The first basement is a very simple path. Just head down the path. Ignore the treasures you see to the sides of you on this floor, you'll come back to them in due time.
-Again, ignore the door and just go down the stairs. This time the door just leads to an empty room. (There seems to be a lot of those in FF2.)
IV. Snow Cave- Basement 2

-This floor is fairly long and drawn out. Take the path to the northwest at the start.
-The path leads to a IceWind. The IceWind casts Ice16 on all enemies so it's not a bad pick up by any means. Save it for the boss. Return to the start of the floor.
-This time head down the other path at the start. You'll come to this point with 2 paths. The one to the top leads to a room with 3 treasures while the one to the bottom leads to the next floor. I recommend that you get the treasures but it's up to you.
-If you do head up take the stairs up to basement 1. There are 3 chests on the floor. (These are the ones you could see from basement 1 before but couldn't reach.) The treasures contain an antidote, a battle axe, and a mithril cane. The cane can be helpful if you have them equiped on Maria. Otherwise, it sells for a good amount.
-The cane is guarded by a group of 4-5 grenades. Use bolt magic against them or physical magic against them. If you hit a grenade and fail to kill it by the end of your turn them it will use blast and cause major damage to a party member so try to plan your attacks effectively.
-Now head back to basement 2 and head down at the intersection. You'll come to these stairs that lead down to the next level.
V. Snow Cave- Basement 3

-The third basement of the cave is much easier than it looks. Head north first and find this treasure with a potion in it. Directly to the right of this potion is an ice spell. Teach the spell to one of your characters, it'll help soon.
-Now head to the southeast corner of the floor. There are 2 treasures here as well. A potion and a mithril javelin. The javelin sells high but it has no other real purpose.
-Now head to the stairs, they're just to the north and a little east of these treasures. Once again ignore the door, it leads to another empty room.
VI. Snow Cave- Basement 4

-This is the 4th basement of the cave, you're getting pretty close. This floor is pretty big but not that large (paradox...). Head west at the very beginning.
-Down this path you'll find another door that leads to an empty room and a treasure with a mithril shield. Unless you have tons of money, you probably don't have one of these so give it to Frioniel. Head back to the start of the floor.
-Head south now and you'll come to this door. Don't go in quite yet, instead go to the southwest corner of the floor. There you'll find an ancient sword. (It's guarded by a ghoul and 2 shadows but they're very easily defeated.) This sword has more power than a mithril sword but misses much more often. Personally, I think that it misses way too often and would keep a mithril sword over it, but that choice is up to you. It does sell for a lot though.
-Now head back into that door and you'll find a bunch of... beavers??? In any case all they say is Gau! Wau? Talk to thier leader and somehow Guy will understand him. Apparently a bell is hidden behind the right wall. So let's check out the right wall.
-You'll be able to walk through this part of the wall. If you look closely you can see the red spot in the wall which is where I'm standing.
VII. The Goddess Bell

-This next stretch is just a plain-old straight forward path, just head on down it. You'll come to this treasure with some silver armor. Equip it on Frioniel and if he had mithril armor and someone else didn't then give the mithril armor to someone else. Make sure that you get the armor before talking to the "thing" in the room.
-The "thing" just happens to be the guardian of the goddess bell. Talking to him thrusts you against him in battle.

Adamanti 450 0 Ice N/A N/A

-Adamanti isn't very hard when you consider his huge weakness to ice. Use ice and you can't go wrong, especially if you have ice 2-3. Use the IceWind that you picked up earlier in the level, it'll also help. Make sure that you keep your HP up and you shouldn't have many difficulties. Funny that a creature so weak to ice would be in an ice cave.
-After you defeat Admanti check this plaque on the wall and you'll pick up the goddess bell hidden behind the wall. After this take the stairs and they'll lead you back up to the first floor. Now just backtrack and exit the dungeon.
-Just when you thought you were out Borgan is waiting for you by the exit. You'll have to fight him to get through.

Borgan 240 20 N/A N/A N/A

-Borgan is probably the easiest boss battle in the entire game. Simply use physical attacks and you'll probably be able kill him in about 2 turns. The only thing to worry about is your HP if you went into the battle low, so make sure that you heal your characters if they're low. Unequip everything from Josef after the battle, and then head down the stairs.
-As you head down the stairs a boulder comes down right at your party. Just when you think that you're not going to make it Josef comes in and tells you to leave while you can.
-Josef ends up dying but you vow that his life will not be forgotten. (A classic RPG death.) Nothing left to do at the cave, head back to Salmando for now.
-The people of Salmando are very upset about Josef. Almost everyone in the town says something to that effect. Josef's daughter as well as the whole town is in disbelief.
-So now that you have the goddess bell where to next? To Kashuon where the bell can be used. Apparently, there are chocobos in Kashuon!
