OVERVIEW: Now that you have the goddess bell you will head to Kashuon. Get the Egil Torch and use it to pick up the sun flame. On your way out you'll see the warship chasing down Cid's airship.
I. On to Kashuon
-Before heading to Kashuon make sure that you have at least one heal spell. If not pick one up in Bofsk before leaving, many of the enemies in Kashuon inflict status effects and heal can cure them all. Now that your ready how do you get there? There are actually a couple of them, the easiest of which is to simply take Cid's airship from Poft right to Kashuon for 400 Gil. |
-Another good way (especially if you stopped at Bofsk for a heal spell) is to head southeast of Bofsk. It's quite a walk, but heading this way will familiarize yourself with the area. Kashuon lies in a circlular mountain chain within a circular mountain chain if that makes sense. You'll have to head in the northeast of the outer mountain chain. |
-There are other ways of getting to Kashuon, but don't take them. You can head north of Phin for a LONG time or head southwest of Altea and then head north when it becomes available. Both of these routes have very, very hard enemies and are very long, go one of the first two routes. In any case this is Kashuon, a fairly large dungeon. The enemies in the upper floors are harder than many of the enemies you've been facing recently, but nothing you can't handle.

II. Kashuon- Floor One
-On the first floor you can see the Sun Flame but there's nothing that you can do with it yet, you need the Egil Torch.
-As far as this door goes you can now pass through it. Simply use the Goddess Bell on it and you can pass through.
-Inside you'll find Gordon who had apparently disappeared. He is also looking for the Egil Torch but the monsters were too strong for him. He joins your party and offers to help out.
-It's pretty easy to believe that Gordon couldn't beat the monsters, he's pretty weak. Not only does he have only 64 HP, he also has no spells and fairly low stats. He attacks with the javelin but his equipment is also pretty bad. But, he can help out. When his weapon level gets up to 2-3 he'll deal some more damage. His HP will also rise fairly quickly due to the fact that he doesn't have much. However, it's really not worth healing him that much, you might just want to just let him die and forget about him. Head onto the stairs back down to floor 1. |
-Back on the first floor again head down at the beginning instead of to the left. There you'll find a cure spell. If either Frioniel, Maria, or Guy do not have this spell yet then teach it to them. Otherwise just sell it, don't teach anything to Gordon.
-Then head back and go to the left this time. You can skip the door as it leads to another empty room, then take these stairs to the 2nd floor.
III. Kashuon- Floor 2
-On this floor head down at the first intersection and east on the 2nd and then continue on the path. Don't worry you aren't missing any treasure. There's only one chest on this floor and you'll get it as you go around.
-Make sure that you pick up the 300 Gil on the path to these stairs and then take them up to the third floor.
IV. Kashuon- Floor 3
-The third floor is slightly more complex, but it's still not that difficult. Head down the path until you reach this area with 3 paths all heading south. Don't bother with the westernmost path, it's a dead end.
-Instead, take the middle path first. It'll lead you to a nice gold shield. You'll have to fight a couple of WereRats but they won't be difficult at all. Equip the gold shield immediately on one of your three base characters.
-This time take the easternmost path. It'll lead you to the stairs up to the next level.
V. Kashuon- Floor 4
-This floor is rather difficult, there are many doors that lead to empty rooms. There is only one door with any treasure in it and it is well worth visiting.
-Head west until you get to this point and then head down. Head into the door that you can see on my screen. This is the ONLY door on this floor that goes to a room with anything in it. (Except for that door that you can see in the southwest corner of the floor that you can't get to yet.)
-This room has some really good treasure. First of all the were cane is the best cane so far in the game if you have the cane as Maria's weapons. The mithril sword and axe are also the best sword and axe so far in the game. You might have already bought them in Altea, if not then equip them on Frioniel and Guy. In any case they all sell for quite a bit so you can't go wrong.
-Now head out of the room and head back north again. Then continue west on the path you were on. Continue around and eventually south and you'll reach the stairs to the next floor. That's all there is to do on this floor.
VI. Kashuon- Floor 5
-Head to the right instead of the left at the beginning of the floor, the door on the left is also an empty room. (It's becoming a theme.) Then head to the treasure that you can see in the dead center of the floor.
-The treasure contains some gold armor, the best at this point in the game. It is also guarded though, this time by 3 mines and 2 balloons. The mines are tough, and if you hit them and fail to kill them on that turn they'll use blast for heavy damage. Use fire and or bolt magic against them to get the best results.
-As far as the rest of this floor is concerned, there are 2 corners of the floor that you should visit. First, head to the northeast corner of the floor and pick up the antidote, eyedrop, and echoscn.
-Then head to the southwest corner of the floor and you'll find the stairs that lead back down to the 4th floor and the boss of the dungeon.
VII. The EgilTrch and SunFlame
-Head down the stairs and into the room. Make sure that you fully heal yourself before fighting the boss, he can pack a serious punch. You probably want your weapon level to be 5 at the very least. Physical attacks are the only way to hit the boss, he absorbs elemental magic attacks.

-R.Soul is quite the difficult foe. Especially if your weapon level isn't that high. Do not under any circumstances use fire, ice, or bolt, they will just heal R.Soul. R.Soul will lead with a couple of powerful spells on his first few turns, but then he will run out of MP. So have 2-3 people cure the party on the first few turns until he stops using magic. Once he starts using physical attacks you've got the fight won because they miss often and aren't very strong. Just continue pounding away with physical attacks until you've defeated him.
-Now go and pick up the EgilTrch from the chest. Use exit, and then re-enter Kashuon. |
-Go back to the Sun Flame and use the Egil Torch on it to get the flame. Now head back out of Kashuon.
-Now walk out of Kashuon and you'll see a little scene where the warship is chasing Cid's airship. Hmmmmm.... So head back to Poft and Altea to see what's going on. But wait, there's a much easier way than walking back all that way.
VIII. Chocobos!!!
-Instead of taking the long, long walk back to these towns why not just go the easy way. Walk directly south of Kashuon and you'll enter a chocobo forest.
-Now to catch the chocobo in the forest you simply have to stand in front of it and press A. It will say that you caught a chocobo. Now head outside of the forest and the chocobo will be waiting for you. You can move quickly and without having to get into random battles on the chocobos.
-Note: Because of the fact that you lose your chocobo after dismounting it - go and heal in Bofsk, get another chocobo, and then go straight to the warship from the directions I'll give you. Going back to Altea and then going back to get a chocobo is a long and unnecessary trip, you can just read what I do. You'll also notice that if you go back to Poft Cid is missing from the pub. This makes the trip even more difficult. |
-You can gain some information on what happened back in Altea. Apparently, the Princess took Cid's airship to greet you in Kashuon. So the Princess was also on the airship. Meaning that the Empire now has Princess Hilda as well as Cid, not good.
-So where is the airship? This person informs you that it's north of Phin, so that's where your heading next.
