OVERVIEW: Back in Altea, the king appoints Gordon as the new commander in chief of the rebellion. Then he tells you about Dist and the dragoons there that can help you. Then he sadly passes away. In Dist you find the last Hiryuu but are unable to speak with it.

I. The King and Gordon

-Back in Altea the talk of the town seems to be about the King. His condition seems to be getting a lot worse recently. Unequip Gordon and then head to the King's room to pay him a visit.
-As soon as you enter the room the King summons everyone to come near. Then he asks Gordon to become the new commander in chief of the rebellion. Gordon accepts and leaves your party.
-The King then asks Minh to unseal the forbidden seal. Minh agrees and says that he'll do it and that it's needed at a time like this. So what and where is the forbidden seal? And what is being sealed? You'll find out fairly soon, be patient.
-Then he goes on to talk about Dist and the dragoons there. He says that the Hiryuu is the key to the future. And dragoons are necessary because they are the only ones that can talk to Hiryuus.
-He then tells you to look after Hilda and dies. Now that Gordon is in charge, head off to talk with him in the throne room.
-Talk to Gordon and he'll say the keyword Dragoon, learn it. Repeat it to him and he'll tells you that a Hiryuu would be a great help, learn Hiryuu too. Apparently, you'll need a dragoon to speak to a Hiryuu and this Hiryuu will help out in some way. But, the Emperor is trying to wipe out all the dragoons so there might not be any left at all. Hmmmm... interesting. So where is Dist???
-This man in Palm informs you that Dist is on an island in the eastern sea. So how in the heck do you get to an island? Head to Palm next to find out.
II. Layla the Pirate

-When you first enter Palm you'll notice someone different standing by the entrance. It's a female pirate named Layla. She just happens to have a ship and heading to Dist.
-Maria seems to think that this is suspicious but Guy doesn't think anything of it, so you accept her offer. Board her ship outside of Palm. So you're on your way to Palm, but suddenly the ship stops.
-Soon after setting sail the rest of Layla's crew attacks your party. The fight is ridiculously easy. You fight against 8 pirates that have very little HP and barely any attack power.
-After beating them, Layla decides to join your party and gives you control of her ship. Layla is one of two left handed characters in the game so if you equip new weapons on her (the gouche dagger is great if you haven't sold it) equip it on her left hand. Her goldpin helmet has great defense, take it off her and give it to Maria.
-Layla's HP, MP, and basically all of her other stats aren't that great. She has one magic spell, level 2 bolt and that's it. Her starting dagger level is midway through level 2 so giving her daggers as weapons is a pretty good idea. Overall though she won't be much help.
-The best thing about having Layla on your team is that you get her ship! Now you can sail the seas of Final Fantasy 2! There are random battles in the ship but the encounter rate is much lower than it is on land which is a plus. And unlike FF1 you can dock your ship essentialy anywhere. But where in the world is Dist???

-This crude map should give you an idea of where to head next. The big filled in red square is where your ship is when you gain control of it. Number 11 on the map is Dist Castle where you have to head next. However, you might want to make a quick stop at Mysidia (#14). If you have some extra money (you probably do from the last few dungeons) then head to Mysidia. You can buy some great equipment and pick up some magic while you're at it. You have to go to Mysidia eventually but you're not really supposed to head there yet. The equipment you pick up in Mysidia will make the upcoming battles much easier if you can afford it. It's up to you, if your going to skip Mysidia then simply use the map to get to Dist Castle and skip to here, otherwise follow the map to Mysidia.

III. Side Trip to Mysidia

-Dock your boat around here and head east to Mysidia. Be very careful with the enemies they are very difficult. If you run into coctrices be very careful. They can turn a member into stone that can only be cured by a G.Needle or a high level heal spell that you probably don't have. Also, watch for mallows and puddings. Physical attacks will do nothing against these guys. Use bolt against mallows and fire against puddings.
-In any case this is the town of Mysidia. There are some great things for sale that will help you in the coming battles. Several people in the town make mentions of a sealed spell and of Minh. This means nothing to you for now but it will fairly soon.

-As you can see there's quite a selection of things to get in Mysidia. Head to the weapon shop and then the armor shop before buying any magic. The equipment there is of much more use for the upcoming Dist Cave.

-Weapons Shop: Stop here first and get the ice bow and ogre axe and give them to Maria and Guy. They are both great weapons and will greatly increase your attack power.

-Armor Shop: Go to the armor shop next. What you get here will depend on how much money that you have. Your first priority should be to pick up knight armor for Frioniel, Maria, and Guy. You should also get an ice shield for Frioniel/Guy, whoever didn't get the one from the warship. (If you didn't get the one in the warship you'll need two.) Then pick up giant gauntlets for all of your characters except the one who has the thief gauntlets from the warship. If you still have money left then get knight armor, giant gauntlets, and an ice shield for Layla.

-Magic Shop: If you still have money left then head to the magic shop. There is a lot of magic for in Mysidia. In fact, EVERY spell that has been sold in the game is sold here. The only new magic is at the middle counter. There are some nice spells here, but you probably won't be able to afford then after the other shops. If you do get the change spell, it changes your HP/MP with the target and is very useful against enemies and even some bosses(Plus, it is the single best way to level up your own characters, see Tricks for more info). Holy is a very good offensive spell if you can afford it. As for wall and barrier, wall nullifies magic spells and barrier provides some defensive boosts. They're not the greatest but they can be useful in some boss battles.

-After shopping in Mysidia head back to your ship and follow the map to find the way to Dist Castle. You'll have to dock your ship around here and then walk north to the Castle. Don't worry about the enemies you'll fight on the way, they're much easier than they were around Mysidia.
IV. Dist Castle

-This is Dist Castle. There are no random battles in the castle so you don't have to worry about that at all. You're here to find a Hiryuu that can somehow help you out. But, you're going to need a dragoon to talk to it. Hmmmm... interesting, head on in.

Dist Castle

Treasure: Cottage, ElderIQ, G. Needle, Eyedrop, Antidote, Crucifix, EchoScn, Heart, Winged Sword, Unicorn, Stone, Stop, Curse, FenixDn

-Right inside of the castle is a kid that asks who you are. He then moves up by the stairs. Talk to him again and he says that he's going to go tell his mom, follow him up the stairs.
-There is a lot of treasure to be had in the castle. Start by picking up this cottage at the top of the stairs. Then head southeast from the stairs towards the kid and the lady in the center of the floor.
-The woman tells you that the castle was attacked by the empire and that the only survivors were her and her son. All of the dragoons including her husband were killed.
-There is one Hiryuu left but unfortunatly no one can speak with it. She also tells you that you need a pendant to speak with a Hiryuu but only the dragoons have them and they're all gone. Head inside the room next to her.
-As you can see talking to the Hiryuu is no easy task without a pendant. You can see why no one can understand it. Now head out of the room, it's time to collect the treasure from the castle.
-Don't bother with the room next to the one that the Hiryuu is in, it's empty. Instead, head to the stairs in the northeast corner of the floor and go down them.
-There's an intersection at the bottom of the stairs. It really doesn't matter which way you head first, each leads to treasure. I'm going to go left first for the heck of it.
-To the left there is a room containing: ElderIQ (raises int. in battle), G.Needle (cures petrification), EyeDrop, Antidote, Crucifix (cures curse), EchoScn (cures mute), Heart (raises soul in battle), and a winged sword. The winged sword is much better than the sleep and mithril sword. It not only has a higer atk. power but it also has a much higher hit%.
-Now head back and go down the other path. There's one room on the path and there's a treasure with a unicorn at the end of the path. Pick it up if you want (all it does is help you run from a battle) and then go back into the room.
-There are 3 magic spells in here that are half way decent, stone, stop, and curse. Stone petrifies an enemy, stop stops an enemy from moving, and curse casts a curse status effect on the enemy. Curse is the best of the three because it works much more often. However, none of these are worth it, sell all three.
-There is another set of stairs on the floor in the southwest. Head south from the stairs you just came up and then west to get to them. There's a FenixDn (revives an ally) at the bottom of the stairs. There's nothing left to do in the castle, head out or use exit to leave.
