A New Threat
By Smash 48
Chapter One: A Mysterious Shadow

It was a sunny day in Grass Land. Larry Koopa looked
up at the cloudless sky. Suddenly there was an
ominous rumbling. He looked behind him and saw a
black cloud coming up behind him. He said to himself,
“Good, now I won’t have to water my plants today.”
Then, BOOM! A bolt of lightning flashed down and
slammed into him, throwing him into a tree and sending
his wand in the opposite direction. As consciousness
slipped away from him, he saw a shadowy figure pick up
his wand…

That same day in Desert Land, Morton Koopa Jr. was
taking a walk, looking for his castle staff. They had
all run away screaming after getting a dose of his
incessant talking. “Why did they run away like that?
I was only telling them their job in every little
detail so that they could do it just right and…mmmph!”
A freak sandstorm had come up. Because he had not
expected this, his loose grip on his wand tore it away
from his hand. As he turned to chase it he saw a dark
creature grab his wand and point it at him…

And so it happened to every Koopa. Wendy was knocked
out by a tidal wave. A giant Goomba crushed Iggy. Roy
was thrown around by a tornado. Lemmy was frozen by
his own freeze gun. He had to be dragged to Dark Land
and revived by Bowser’s fire breath. A piranha plant
ate Ludwig. And every time a shadowy figure stole that
Koopa’s wand.

The next day, Bowser Koopa was walking atop the walls
of his castle in Dark Land. Suddenly, there was a
loud crash, and the tallest tower in the castle fell
into the courtyard. Outside, there was a huge
catapult with a dark figure standing next to it.

“Attack! Attack! To arms!” Bowser yelled as he ran
through the castle. Yet when all the forces were at
the walls, the catapult had disappeared. Bowser was
forced to call it a drill. After the troops had been
dispersed, Bowser sat back and contemplated the
damage. It seemed strange that they had only damaged
the castle in that one spot, the spot where magic and
magic wands were studied. He decided to call a
meeting of his Koopa Kids. Little did he know that
they were already trudging to Dark Land in various
states of disrepair. Larry was burnt, Morton still had
sand in his mouth, Wendy was soaked, Iggy was in a
body cast, Roy was still dizzy, Lemmy was frozen into
a block of ice and being dragged there, and Ludwig was
covered in Piranha Plant spit.
Chapter 2: The Meeting

After all the Koopalings were recovered enough, they
held a family meeting on how to handle this latest
threat.

“The first thing to do is identify who the threat is.”
Bowser said.

“Well, at least we know it isn’t Mario,” Lemmy said,
“He’s too stupid to do anything other than eat pasta
and fight with his brother.”

“Could it have been Nick?”

“Nah, he may be a rat, but he wouldn’t stoop this
low.”

“Actually, I don’t think we know anyone who would do
this.”

“Well, actually that Smithy character you told us
about who made you team up with Mario could have done
this, but he’s dead, right?”

“Right. In fact, his hammer is hanging up in my room.”

“Well, it wouldn’t hurt to check.”
Sure enough, when they got to his room the hammer was
gone.

“I guess it is Smithy then.”
“Where is he then?”

“Judging from the rate of attack, what lands were
attacked first, and at what time attacked, his lair
must be in the center of the bathysphere under an
element composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen
atom.”
“What?”
“Ludwig says Smithy lives under the ocean.”
“And because we can’t use magic, we’ll have to depend
on my inventions.” Ludwig said.
At that same instant, everyone in the castle thought,
“Oh no, we’re doomed”
Chapter 3: The First Battle

The next day, Bowser and his kids, along with 500
Koopa Troopas, 1000 Goombas, 200 of each variety of
Hammer Brother, and uncountable underwater troops went
to siege Smithy’s castle. The Doomsub wouldn’t hold
them all, so most of them were towed along by the
underwater troops.

So Bowser and the Koopalings wouldn’t get hurt, Ludwig
invented armor that could (in Mario RPG terms) absorb
1,000 points of damage before cracking or breaking.
When they got there, the doors were open, so they
proceeded cautiously onward. Suddenly, the doors in
front of them and behind them slammed shut.
A tall, lean, muscular man dropped from the ceiling.
He was holding Smithy’s hammer, but he was not Smithy.

“HA HA! You have fallen into my trap! My name is
Exar. (NOT Exor) I heard you had found Smithy’s
hammer, so I stole it. I also stole your kid’s wands
and now I will do what you never could: take over the
Mushroom World!

“NO! It’s mine! MINE! ATTACK!”

Exar started swinging the hammer expertly and defeated
the troops before anyone could even breathe.

“Now you!” He dropped the hammer and picked up the
wands.

Wendy charged. Mistake #1. Exar pointed her wand at
her. A big candy ring came out of it. It looped
around her, pinning her arms to her sides. She fell
down trying to free them

Ludwig charged. He shook the floor. Exar jumped up
and slammed down, hurtling him into the ceiling and
knocking him out.

Iggy, Roy, and Lemmy came in. Exar switched Roy’s
sunglasses with Iggy’s glasses. Thinking Lemmy was
Exar they both charged into him, knocking all three
out.

Exar grabbed Morton and taped his mouth shut. He
waited until his head had grown to three times its
regular size. Then he pulled the tape off. So much
talk came out of his mouth that all the Koopas were
blown back to their Dark Land castle. Then he threw
Morton there too, leaving eight holes in the outer
wall.
Chapter 4: The Gathering

Bowser and the Koopalings were lucky. They had
managed to get by with just scrapes and bruises, but
their armor was completely destroyed. They had
another family meeting to discuss what to do next.

“If Your Royal Highness, King of all, and lord of all
he sees, was able to defeat the evil, bad, naughty
Smithy by teaming up with the fat, stupid, smelly
Mario, why can’t you do it again oh great, mighty,
King Dad?” Morton asked.

“Yeah, and this time add the maker of secret sauces,
Luigi,” Wendy said in a cheap imitation of Morton.

“Okay, and we might as well add the Princess too,”
said Bowser, “Now, which one of you has done the least
number of rotten things to Mario?”

They all counted up. “Wendy and Morton, King Dad.”

“Go get them and I’ll raise your allowances,” said
Bowser

They ran to Mario’s Pad. As usual, they were in a
fist-fight over whose hair was better.

Morton said, “Oh, pasta-eating Mario and maker of
secret sauces Luigi, would you please, please, please
come and help the great, mighty King Dad by helping
him beat up an evil bad guy who stole Smithy’s
hammer?”

Mario and Luigi thought about it for a second and
said, “NO!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Then Wendy threw a tantrum. They agreed right away.

After that they also picked up Yoshi, the Princess,
and Toad. (By Wendy throwing a tantrum of course. She
even got to ride on Yoshi’s back!)
Chapter 5: The Plan

When they got back to Castle Koopa, they all sat and
had a Council of War. Unfortunately, this was
extremely hard with the Princess refusing to sit next
to Bowser, Yoshi trying to eat Larry (the only one
that would fit in
his mouth), and Mario and Luigi constantly on the
verge of getting into a fist-fight. However, they
managed to work out a plan.

Undoubtedly, Exar had managed to work spies into the
Castle; the princess would make sure they saw her,
Mario, Luigi, and Toad. With all the Mushroom leaders
in one place, it would be impossible to resist wiping
them out in one swift stroke. With all their leaders
gone, the mushroom people would surrender instantly,
taking out over 3/4 of the population that would
fightback.

Once Exar was in the castle they would do the same
thing he did to them, trapping him in a room. Ludwig
invented a force field device to trap him in, just in
case he could brake down the doors. The Koopas and
their allies could walk through it, but Exar couldn’t.
Next, with 7 other inventions that acted as magnets
for a certain kind of wand, each Koopaling would get
their wand back. Then, they would create a large ball
of energy around him, then set an explosion off on the
inside, vaporizing him. If that didn’t work, they
would make Ludwig play some of his music, making Exar
explode.
Chapter 6: The Trap

The next day, Exar was seen coming towards Koopa
Castle. Everyone except Bowser, the seven Koopalings,
Princess Toadstool, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad had
taken cover in the dungeon. They all hid in the rooms
around the trap room. When he entered the trap room,
Ludwig turned on his generator. It made a barely
audible hum. Then, the doors slammed closed. Exar
charged at the door and WHAM! ran full tilt into the
force field.

“Oh no…It’s a trap! Oh well, I can still destroy this
field with these magic wands!” he said, holding them
up in the air.

Suddenly, they were ripped out of his hands! He
looked around and saw the Koopalings, as well as
Bowser, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Yoshi
surrounding him. The Koopalings shot magic at him.
Mario and Luigi, working together for once, shot him
with fireballs. Bowser breathed fire at him. Peach
Psych Bombed him. Yoshi shot him with eggs. Toad ran
around finding things for Yoshi to eat.

Slowly, a ball of energy began forming around him.
They were about to kill him when he screamed, “NO!”
and smashed Smithy’s hammer into the floor.

This distracted them enough so that their ball of
energy got disrupted, and then exploded. The force
field protected them somewhat, but they were still
blown back against the wall. They heard a loud
crash. When their eyes cleared, they saw the
chandelier on which Exar had stood.

They had only a few minutes to celebrate. There was
an ominous rumbling. Castle Koopa was collapsing!
Since the trap room was near the entrance, and the
dungeons had a secret exit, no one was hurt.

“What do we do now?” the Princess said.

“What any other Koopa would do, of course,” Bowser
said, “Build another castle somewhere else.”
All is peaceful now. The Koopalings went back to
their respective castles. Mario and Luigi aren’t
fighting (as much). Bowser is living with Toadstool
until his new castle is done. All in all, all is
well, for now.

Meanwhile, in the ruined Castle Koopa, a hand still
clutches a hammer. An eye flickers red. With a
triumphant laugh, Exar begins to pull himself from the
wreckage…
