Prince Adam, aged 19-21, of Eternia is the son of King Randor and Queen Marleena. He has only one sister, his twin, Adora, who was stolen at birth by the evil Hordak. However, they were reunited later in their lives and continue to help protect Good from Evil.
Prince Adam did not always know he was destined to become He-man, Master of the Universe. He grew up in the palace with his good friend Teela. Teel's father, Duncan would train them both in the art of combat. Teela could never understand the young prince's goofiness but they shared many good times. Over the years they grew up together but as they got older Teela acted as more of a babysitter, trying to keep the rogue prince out of trouble. Adam would one day like to admit his love to Teela but can't admit his feelings due to his secret identity.
On his 18th Birthday (which he shared with Teela) Duncan led Adam deep into the Evergreen Forest. Adam thought Duncan was mad when he told him that they must follow the falcon, Zoar, to find Castle Grayskull because that was just a fairy tale ... wasn't it? After a long hard trek through the treacherous forest they arrived at their destination - Castle Grayskull! When inside he met the Sorceress. Previously he had only seem images of the Sorceress or heard her thoughts in his mind. The Sorceress told Adam of his Destiny, and if he chose to except it he would become the most powerful being in the whole Universe. After a couple of hours Adam had decided he must fulfill his Destiny as He-Man, she handed him the ‘Sword of Power’ which he held above his head and cried those infamous words "BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL!!". A surge of energy rushed through him and when he gazed at his reflection no longer did he see the weak Prince Adam of Eternia but a tall, dark and extremely strong stranger who would be known as He-man. After the Sorceress told him of his duty as protector of the Universe he transformed back into Adam to return to the palace in Eternos City. On his way back, Duncan told Adam that no-one must know who He-man really was as it could endanger their, and He-man’s, lives.
Only four other beings know He-man’s real identity, the Sorceress, Man at Arms, Orko and Cringer his pet Eternian tiger. Today He-Man continues to protect the Universe from all evil, especially his arch-enemy - Skeletor, with the help of his companions, The Masters Of The Universe, while Adam remains the clueless Son and Heir to the King and Queen of Eternia. He has many other relatives, some of whom rule other areas of Eternia.
To turn back to Adam He-Man cries "LET THE POWER RETURN" and slides his sword back into it's sheath. To get into Castle Grayskull he must demand "by the power OF Grayskull I COMMAND THE JAWBRIDGE OPEN!"
