A Tunnels and Trolls® play-by-post adventure run by khara_khang
Anyway, Jack gets ready to act as back up, i.e., stand behind people who can handle themselves in a fight, ready to draw that special dagger should things get too out of hand.
Out of the corner of his eye, Bela sees Jack posturing with his hand over his dagger. He never had the heart to tell him about it [namely, Jack's so-called "Dagger of Time" is a fake --ed.]. It's probably best he find out on his own, he figures.
Unless his method of finding out involves his and everyone else's destruction, of course. ;)
I used to live with my great uncle Curtis, who was going senile. We were watching a college football game, and his team scored a touchdown. We cheered quite gladly. Then they showed the instant replay, and he cheered again! I was about to tell him, when I realized the game he was watching was better than the one I was watching, so I let him be.
They say it's dangerous to wake a sleepwalker. Bela suspects that it would be just as dangerous to tell Jack as it would be if he were to find out on his own. Perhaps he could cast Little Feets on Jack to give him the illusion that time is slowing down.

Certainly. However, this was a detriment to nobody---not your uncle, not the rest of the family, etc (unless bets with a bookie had been placed on the game).
Whereas Jack believing his dagger has incredible powers could cause him to take on situations he's not ready for, or cause others to put too much trust into him, thinking he's got some powerful magic artifact.
They say it's dangerous to wake a sleepwalker.
I never trust the Illuminati. Who are these mysterious "they" people?
Bela suspects that it would be just as dangerous to tell Jack as it would be if he were to find out on his own.
But perhaps safer for others? Bela, Jax, and some of the others know that Jack's dagger isn't what it seems, but the newer ones don't have this knowledge. Jay, for one, believes Jack's dagger is something of importance. Why? Jack said it was, Jay has no reason to doubt him, and nobody else has contradicted Jack on this point. Presumably, Quickly, Ebony, Olvarian, Lilac, Amroth, and several others who have come and gone would also believe Jack has a powerful artifact, something that might be painful to find out otherwise in the wrong situation. It might make no difference (it hasn't so far as I see it) and the others might be more suspicious than Jay (who did ask Jack about the dagger once, but received no response). Ah well.
In character, Jay would much rather be in the know, as he's made plain several times that he doesn't believe in keeping secrets that might adversely affect his life or the lives of his teammates.
Out of character, I wouldn't tell Jack either, which is why my initial comment had a ";)" in it. It's simply more fun to read about Jack's deep self-assurance with it, and belief in its ability---even better when things work out that reinforce his belief (such as happened in the last adventure, when he coincidentally drew the dagger the same time our portal foes disappeared).
Perhaps he could cast Little Feets on Jack to give him the illusion that time is slowing down.
Bela won't always be with Jack to help him out like this. The last adventure, for instance, featured Jack, but not Bela.
<shrug>
Hopefully, Jack's belief in the item's power and confidence in himself for possessing it will be enough to overcome the inherent flaw of it not actually having power.
Who are these mysterious "they" people?
Haven't you seen Their big tower? "They Inc." It's supposed to be in New Delhi. At least thats what They tell me.
But perhaps safer for others?
Bela remembers that Jack was ready to attack Martek and Bela if one of them didn't hand over the (real) Dagger of Time.
The newer ones don't have this knowledge. Jay, for one, believes Jack's dagger is something of importance. Why? Jack said it was....
I had forgotten that!
Presumably, Quickly, Ebony, Olvarian, Lilac, Amroth, and several others who have come and gone would also believe Jack has a powerful artifact....
Bela doesn't know about that.
In character, Jay would much rather be in the know, as he's made plain several times that he doesn't believe in keeping secrets that might adversely affect his life or the lives of his teammates.
If Jay were to ask, Bela would tell him what he can, situation permitting. He doesn't mean to keep it a secret from the others, and if Jack were to ask, he'd tell him, too.
Out of character, I wouldn't tell Jack either, which is why my initial comment had a ";)" in it. It's simply more fun....
Exactly! :-D

Ditto.

Probably not true. Must be Freemasons.

Jack would probably dismiss you as simply attempting to talk him out of the dagger, true. Doesn't mean the others wouldn't.

Bela doesn't know about that.
True. But Bela does now Jack, who isn't exactly tight-lipped (well, lipped isn't exactly fitting) about the dagger.
If Jay were to ask, Bela would tell him what he can, situation permitting. He doesn't mean to keep it a secret from the others, and if Jack were to ask, he'd tell him, too.
Jack would have no reason to ask: he believes it's what he thinks it is. Jay would have no reason to ask either: Jack already identified it, and nobody said otherwise.
Out of character, I wouldn't tell Jack either, which is why my initial comment had a ";)" in it. It's simply more fun....
Exactly! :-D
And we'll have fun, fun, fun, 'til Daddy Gargoyle carries de Crampon away....
Hopefully, Jack's belief in the item's power and confidence in himself for possessing it will be enough to overcome the inherent flaw of it not actually having power.
Ditto.
We'll see soon enough. ;)
