Shadow Hearts
Made by former Square employee's that are now working for SNK, This RPG is looking good in a Final Fantasy way! It supports 3D polygonal charcaters that move in a 2D backround. It has Random battles which are based in real time. It has an innovative skill based hit system, after selecting your action (which is called the Judgement Ring) a timing based minigame that will determines whether your action is successful. Each character will also have his/her own set of abilities.

It is schedule for Japan release sometimes this year for the PS2, but so far there has been no words of US or Europe release date. Maybe they'll announce it at E3?

Saiyuki: Journey West (Preview)
Made by KOEI, Saiyuki is a strategy-RPG that is based on a Popular Chinese Myth. The myth/legend was called "Monkey Magica". It was about the monk Sanzo's journey from China to India and back. He also recruits people on the way: Son Goku, the Monkey King, and others and leads them through an epic journey of danger and discovery.

The battle is somewhat like Final Fantasy Tactics battle. It's on a 3d field map and you are able to rotate the view as well as zoom in. Saiyuki uses an orthodox turn-based combat style, different from FFT. Your are able to cast magic and summon beast to aid you in your journey. You can also set the sex of your main character at the start of the game!

Character artwork are done by none other then Akihiro Yamada, who worked on Front Mission 3.

It will come out for the regular PSX in June 2001, although it was released in 1998 in Japan/Asia.
