When I first heard the name Cowboy Bebop, I thought to myself, sounds like a stupid cartoon about cowboys with nut-hugging wranglers getting it on. I gave the first session a try from a friend of mine(and Gotenks begged that I give it a chance) and I had a different take on it after. It was a cartoon cool enough to have non-otaku watch and appreciate without saying it is too weird. To best sum up this show is to say this is a anime version of Pulp Fiction. The main star is Spike Spiegal, a bounty hunter with his partner Jet Black. The two try to find ways to survive on the Bebop, their ship. They watch a television show like America's Most Wanted to find out info on the latest criminals. There are other characters, which include Faye Valentine(a sexy-criminal),Ein(a dog), and ED(a mentally challenged retarded kid).I found the cast to grow on me with each passing episode. The story somehow connects in a series, but at the same time not really, so missing a episode does not mean missing on the whole story. The general tale is about Spike trying to regain is memory and find his old friend Vicious and resovle what happened a long time ago. The animation and music are both excellent. Yoko Kanno(Escaflowne,Brain Powered)is in charge of the score and it is some of the coolest shiet I have heard and injects a extra ounce of charisma to the show. I do have a complaint, the ending. I am not going to give it away, for those who have not or are barely beginning to watch this show. I will say that it had me wanting a follow-up, but supposedly there might be a movie in the works, so that might help, a little. I still recommend picking up this show and any session is fine to begin with. Its about the best NEW thing going on in anime today.Rating=9.0 |
