After dismal Star Wars games like Jedi Power Battles and Episode One, and a sucky movie too. I said to hell with the whole entire series, the movies are becoming lame and so are the damn games. The Super Nintendo offered the trilogy, Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, three action-packed games with lots of variety in the gameplay. Then came Shadows of the Empire which was alright on N64, and then Rouge Sqaudron for PC and the N64 and my that turned out better than expected. Now here we are in the middle of perhaps the biggest stage of the gaming industry and Stars Wars has returned and better than what I anticipated. Here is the breakdown of what I like about this game. Lucas Arts keep the intensity of the movie's dog fights by keeping the controls simple and the constant action gives it a arcade-like feel. There were many times when after destroying a whole entire flock of enemies, then all of a sudden comes an new army entering the mix to take out. The power of the PS2(yes Mix it can do some amazing things) allows a huge number, sometimes as many as 100 suckers on screen, how is that for intensity, all with little to no slowdown in the framerate. The music and the graphics are simply stunning too, amazing looking ships and neon lighting give space a detailed look, while all the entire action is going on John Williams amazing soundtrack gives an added touch of movie magic. From a full-bred-arcade-Galaga-space-shooter freak like myself's perspective this game is great, everything I want. The majoridy might find this game too easy, which wouldn't be a lie, on my first crack ever at that game I made it ten levels in without facing game over. Also many game players might find repetition playing a role, after all its just intense dog fighting all the way, with no diversity in the missions ever. I guess for a Stars Wars nuts like myself this game seems so much sweeter because its a Stars Wars game that is actually good for a change, but all those non-Jedis a rental may be the best way of finding satisfaction, still its one good solid shooter for all gamers.Rating=7.0
Pros= Mind blowing graphics help space look good, top notch movie-inspired soundtrack, lots of fast action.
Cons=TOO easy and non Stars Wars freaks might not see this game with the same magic as us fellow Jedis, bad voice acting.
