Trigun joins Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star in this whole sci-fi western craze. Vash The Great Stampede is a wanted mercenary with a bounty on his head for 60,000,0000 dollars, how is that for you. The first disc really didn't grab my attention, it just was a little too dark and it failed to be taken serious by me; unlike Evangelion. Right around I say episode 5, this series gained my interest. The thing that is so weird is Vash looks so much like a bad ass and acted like one in the first four episodes, really is nothing more than some geeky white guy. He looks so cool but in fact is a big dork, but even this dork has potential that is beyond belief. His ability to break out of dangerous situations and with ease and smooth moves makes him just one cool character. Pioneer who also did Tenchi Muyo and Serial Experiments Lain, are the large in charge of this show. Expect great animation quality that may not sport the most fluid animation, it makes that up with extremely good coloring providing it with a slick look. The music is another high point, for this being a non-Yoko Kanno soundtrack the music is fantastic. The most notable tracks have to be the cool intro with some awesome guitar riffs and the catchy ending. Watch out it can infect you too with its clever beats. Trigun starts to explode when Wolfwood a priest with attitude joins the fun. His funny comments of God and sly character makes him an ideal partner for Vash. As I continued to eat my pizza and drink my Dr. Pepper every weekend to watch this show I couldn't help but feel so attached to it. Really its so much like Bebop, its simplicity is its charm and Trigun has writers that a have a knack for character seeds and thats what makes me watch it more and more. I am going to point my finger on a few things that are wrong with this show, for instance later on it begins to slow down, not really giving its all. Also the lack of a whole story might be another downfall and Trigun also goes a little wack sometimes(not as bad as Revolutionary Girl Utena) :: sees Gotenks watching it in total joy :: I say this, if you want to give this goofy white guy a chance, have patience it releases the better portions later on. Trigun is still worth watching but you may not get as hooked on it as I, just a strange fetish I had for it. Rating=8.0 Pros=Vash is well designed, the good 'ol sense of humor, and lots of hickory smoked western action. Cons=Maybe a little too weird for some, and only time will tell if this show can bring forth new concepts in the ending segments. |
